Nordstrom (JWN) Rallies on Q3 Earnings Beat, Revenues Up 7.2%

Nordstrom Inc. (JWN - Free Report) just released its third quarter fiscal 2016 financial results after the bell, posting earnings of 84 cents per share and revenues of $3.5 billion. JWN is a #3 (Hold), and is up 7% to 59.94 per share in after-hours trading.

Beat earnings estimates. The company reported earnings of 84 cents per share, soaring past the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 52 cents per share. This number excludes 90 cents from non-recurring items.

Beat revenue estimates. The company saw revenues figures of $3.5 billion, topping our consensus estimate of $3.489 billion and increasing 7.2% year-over-year.

Retail gross profit, as a percentage of net sales, was 34.8%, increasing 93 basis points compared with the same period in fiscal 2015.

Across U.S. full-line stores and Nordstrom.com, the top-performing merchandise categories were Women's Apparel and Men's Apparel.

The younger, customer-focused departments in Women's Apparel outperformed again, reflecting strength in denim and collaborations with new and emerging limited distribution brands. The West was the top-performing geographic region.

These outcomes have positively impacted our operating results."
