Waters Rolls Out 4 Preparative SFCs to Boost Torus Column
Read MoreHide Full Article
In a bid to fortify its Torus SFC column line, leading laboratory analytical instrument and software company, Waters Corporation (WAT - Free Report) , unveiled four preparative supercritical fluid chromatography ("SFC") columns. These latest offerings will be particularly helpful for purification laboratories working on drug compounds, natural products, or synthetic chemicals.
Waters’ Torus SFC analytical columns have gained rapid market traction since their introduction a little more than two years ago. The new achiral SFC columns have been designed to unlock additional separations and isolation capability for customers. Torus Columns for preparative SFC can accelerate “method development” for scientists and help them scale up their separations from analytical to preparative-scale achiral separations.
Torus 1.7- and 5-micron columns will be available in four chemistries, namely 2-picolylamine, diethylamine, high density diol and 1-aminoanthracene. They will remain stable and reproducible, even while covering a range of selectivity. This, in turn, ensures consistency across multiple batches over days. Laboratories already using Torus 1.7-micron analytical columns can seamlessly step up their separations to a much larger scale.
Over the past six months, Waters has lost momentum, with shares remaining flat in comparison to the Zacks categorized Instruments-Scientific industry average of 3.4%. Also, this marks an end to the streak of earnings beat over the past nine quarters. In the past two months, the earnings release earnings estimates have moved south, highlighting bearish broker sentiment. Waters has witnessed seven downward estimate revisions compared to none upward, for the same time frame.
This has sent the Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal 2016 earnings down from $6.57 cents to $6.55 cents. We believe that weakness in academic, government and industrial demand will continue to play a major spoilsport for Waters. Unfavorable order timing and volatility associated with instrument-heavy business have been weighing down on the performance of the academic and the government markets. In addition, the Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company’s moderate revenue growth is expected to jeopardize margin expansion in the near term.
Science Applications International has a striking earnings surprise history for the trailing four quarters, having beaten estimates in each of them, for a remarkable average of 9.2%.
Aspen Technology deals in process optimization software and services. It boasts a remarkable average surprise of 23.6% in the trailing four quarters, having surpassed estimates strongly in each of them.
Guidance Software, an industry leader in digital investigative solutions, also has an impressive earnings history, having beaten estimates in all four trailing quarters, for an average of 18.6%.
