Read MoreHide Full Article

Major U.S. Pay-TV operators are currently exploring ways to boost their video revenues by intensifying their presence in hospitality segment.  AT&T Inc. (T - Free Report) and DISH Network Corp. has unveiled a set of services allowing guests to stream videos over the hotel TV set.

The emergence of Pay-TV operators to provide in-room streaming services reflects the downward trend for in-room pay per view service.

AT&T is using Sonify Solution’s Staycast system to provide hotels with DirecTV service. Staycast is compatible with existing wiring and all DirecTV HD systems such as DIRECTV Residential Experience (DRE), COM1000 and COM2000. It is powered by Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOGL - Free Report) Google Chromecast. DirecTV Now is just one of the several new OTT-focused solutions targeted at the hospitality market.

Satellite internet and television provider, DISH, has also launched a similar system for hotels called Evolve. It's a 4K-capable Android TV set-back box that seamlessly integrates app streaming, live linear programming and casting into one customizable solution.

Smartbox, a centrally-located media server system, a part of Evolve, will connect to all the rooms in a hotel.

Smartbox runs on Android TV, allowing the hotel guests to access Google’s Play Store for downloading games, apps, music and movies to the television. With built-in Google Chromecast technology, streaming stuff from Sling TV, YouTube, and Netflix Inc. (NFLX - Free Report) as well as media from personal device becomes possible. Finally, Smartbox also provides internet services over Wi-Fi and Ethernet, which some people still use.

The emergence of Pay-TV operators to provide in-room streaming services reflects the downward trend for in-room pay per view service.

The new video service plans unveiled by AT&T and DISH is aimed to attract more customers, which, in turn, will strengthen their presence in the hospitality segment and enhance video revenues. Both the companies carry a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
