Whirlpool Corporation (WHR - Free Report) shares have gained 13.6% over the past month as investors weigh improving margin trends against continued weakness in appliance demand. The stock remains down 40.4% year to date, highlighting the gap between recent price momentum and the broader earnings recovery challenge.
The company’s second-quarter 2026 results showed sequential margin improvement as pricing actions began offsetting cost pressures, but sales remained under pressure. Whirlpool Corporation Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
WHR Margin Recovery Gets Support From Pricing Actions
Whirlpool’s pricing initiatives are beginning to support profitability, particularly in North America. In the second quarter, MDA North America net sales increased 8% sequentially, while EBIT margin improved 240 basis points from the first quarter, driven mainly by promotional price increases.
The company executed a promotional price increase of more than 10% compared with first-quarter prices and implemented an additional list price increase of approximately 4% effective in July. Management expects these actions, along with builder pricing, to provide further benefits in the second half of 2026.
Whirlpool maintained its 2026 operational outlook, including expectations for approximately $15 billion in net sales and an ongoing EBIT margin of about 4%, supported by pricing actions and structural cost reductions.

Cost Cuts Could Become a Longer-Term Catalyst
Whirlpool is advancing structural cost-reduction initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and supporting margins. The company remains on track to deliver more than $150 million in structural cost takeout in 2026, including savings from automation, strategic sourcing and fixed-cost actions.
Additional benefits are expected from manufacturing and distribution changes. Whirlpool expects the Amana facility modernization to generate approximately $70 million in annualized EBIT improvement, while the Perrysburg facility could add about $30 million. The company also expects distribution network changes to generate another $60 million in annualized EBIT benefits.
Most of these footprint-related benefits are expected to build more meaningfully in 2027 and 2028, creating a longer runway for cost improvements.
Weak Appliance Demand Remains a Challenge
Despite progress on pricing and costs, Whirlpool continues to operate in a difficult demand environment. Second-quarter sales reflected softer appliance demand in North America and promotional intensity in Latin America. Competition remains intense across the appliance industry, with companies such as SharkNinja, Inc. (SN - Free Report) and Newell Brands Inc. (NWL - Free Report) also competing across major appliance categories, including kitchen and household consumer products.
MDA North America sales declined 1.5% year over year as lower industry demand weighed on volumes, although favorable price/mix partially offset the decline. U.S. appliance industry demand fell 3.4% year over year during the quarter.
Cost pressures also remain a concern. Whirlpool’s margin improvement from pricing and mix was partly offset by tariffs and raw-material inflation, including higher steel and base-metal costs.
Investor Signals Remain Mixed for Whirlpool Stock
WHR currently carries a Zacks Recommendation of Neutral and a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). The stock has a Value Score of B, Growth Score of F, Momentum Score of F and VGM Score of D, indicating valuation support but weaker growth and momentum characteristics.
Whirlpool has strengthened liquidity through balance-sheet actions, including completing a $2 billion asset-based lending facility and issuing $2 billion in secured bonds. These steps extended debt maturities and improved financial flexibility.
The recent stock rebound reflects progress on pricing, cost reductions and product execution, but continued gains may depend on whether Whirlpool can sustain margin expansion while navigating weak demand, tariffs and elevated financing costs.
