Key Takeaways

  • Quantum launched ADM to help organizations manage rising data volumes and improve operational efficiency.
  • ADM identifies waste, duplicate, inactive and risk-sensitive data to optimize storage and protection.
  • Quantum's fiscal Q1 2027 revenue rose 25.7% to $80.8M, while supply constraints limited demand fulfillment.

Quantum Corporation (QMCO - Free Report) has introduced Quantum Autonomous Data Management (ADM), a new solution aimed at helping organizations better understand their data, reduce storage costs, lower risk and improve operational efficiency. The launch comes as organizations manage rapidly increasing data volumes across traditional applications, AI, analytics and digital transformation initiatives. Growing AI workloads are also prompting businesses to retain and protect more data for longer periods to support future models, governance and compliance requirements.

Despite these rising demands, many organizations lack visibility into what data they have, how it is being used, how frequently it is accessed, what risks it creates and how much it costs to store and protect. Quantum ADM is designed to address this gap by combining data insights with intelligent automation. The solution helps identify capacity waste, duplicated, inactive, outdated and risk-sensitive data while continuously optimizing data placement across digital environments.

Quantum ADM follows an “assess, automate, optimize” approach. It first analyzes data across the enterprise to help organizations determine what should remain on primary storage, what can be archived or deleted and what requires additional protection or governance. These capabilities are designed to help reclaim primary storage capacity, reduce storage and backup costs, lower power consumption and improve operational control. The solution can then continuously apply intelligent automation based on business, compliance, security and retention requirements.

The launch aligns with Quantum’s recent business momentum. In first-quarter fiscal 2027, the company’s revenue increased 25.7% year over year to $80.8 million, driven by strong demand for ActiveScale and tape storage solutions. QMCO also reported strong enterprise demand, while its backlog increased significantly. Management stated that customers are increasingly seeking ways to optimize storage economics, reduce power consumption and scale without continually adding cost and complexity.
Quantum also continues to see strength in ActiveScale and tape-related solutions, with larger enterprise deals and growing customer expansions. However, supply constraints remain a challenge, particularly around tape drive availability and certain disk drives, limiting the company’s ability to fully meet customer demand.

Taking a Look at QMCO’s Competitors

NetApp, Inc. (NTAP - Free Report) is benefiting from higher enterprise spending on AI-ready storage, with demand for all-flash, Public Cloud and Keystone solutions broadening across customer types. Its unified platform supports data modernization across on-premises and cloud environments, while product and acquisition activity expands AI and migration use cases. Raised fiscal 2027 revenue and earnings guidance points to operating leverage. However, higher component costs and a richer product mix are expected to weigh on gross margins despite pricing actions. Accelerated purchasing may distort demand timing, while competition remains intense. NetApp’s ONTAP capabilities are tested and validated for VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1, supporting private and hybrid-cloud VCF environments.

Dell Technologies Inc. (DELL - Free Report) is benefiting from sustained AI infrastructure demand as customers secure capacity and modernize data centers. Its broad portfolio across AI servers, traditional compute, storage and commercial PCs supports share gains and gives Dell several avenues for growth. Higher Dell IP storage mix, disciplined pricing and operating leverage are also lifting profitability and cash generation, supporting continued shareholder returns. The investment case is strengthened by a large AI backlog and an expanding pipeline across neocloud, sovereign and enterprise customers. For fiscal 2027, Dell raised its revenue outlook by $25 billion to $192 billion, plus or minus $2 billion, and lifted non-GAAP earnings guidance to $25.50 per share, plus or minus 25 cents.
