Aclaris (ACRS) Soars 6.0%: Is Further Upside Left in the Stock?

Read MoreHide Full Article

Aclaris Therapeutics (ACRS - Free Report) shares ended the last trading session 6% higher at $5.64. The jump came on an impressive volume with a higher-than-average number of shares changing hands in the session. This compares to the stock's 8% loss over the past four weeks.

Aclaris Therapeutics’ recent stock gains reflect improving investor confidence in the continued advancement of its pipeline programs. Its lead candidate, ATI-052, delivered positive data from the phase I study, demonstrating a favorable safety profile, potent and sustained target inhibition and the potential for once-every-three-month dosing. Phase Ib proof-of-concept studies in atopic dermatitis and asthma remain on track for top-line data in the second half of 2026, with a phase IIb asthma program planned for the fourth quarter of this year. Bosakitug (ATI-045) is being evaluated in a phase II study for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, with data expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. In early August, modzatinib (ATI-2138), an oral ITK/JAK3 inhibitor, received Fast Track designation from the FDA for moderate-to-severe lichen planus, while Aclaris is advancing ATI-9494, an oral ITK inhibitor, toward an IND filing.

This specialty pharmaceutical company is expected to post quarterly loss of $0.17 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of -41.7%. Revenues are expected to be $1.28 million, down 61.3% from the year-ago quarter.

Earnings and revenue growth expectations certainly give a good sense of the potential strength in a stock, but empirical research shows that trends in earnings estimate revisions are strongly correlated with near-term stock price movements.

For Aclaris, the consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has remained unchanged over the last 30 days. And a stock's price usually doesn't keep moving higher in the absence of any trend in earnings estimate revisions. So, make sure to keep an eye on ACRS going forward to see if this recent jump can turn into more strength down the road.
