Will Boston Scientific's Upcoming Launches Fuel the Next Growth Phase?

Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Boston Scientific plans multiple launches through 2028 across Interventional Cardiology, EP and CRM.
  • BSX's FARAWAVE Ultra and ICE entry are expected to help U.S. EP regain momentum in late 2027.
  • BSX expects global EP growth to remain flat in the second half of 2026 as competitive pressures rise.

Boston Scientific (BSX - Free Report) is preparing for a steady stream of product launches over the next two years that could become an important source of incremental growth. In Interventional Cardiology, the company plans to launch the SEISMIQ 4CE Coronary Intravascular Lithotripsy Catheter in the first half of 2027. Data from the FRACTURE trial, presented as a late-breaker at EuroPCR in May, met all endpoints and showed high rates of freedom from major adverse cardiac events in 30 days, along with procedural success in patients with severely calcified coronary artery disease.

In Endoscopy, Boston Scientific had received FDA clearance for RIVOS, a first-of-its-kind single-device designed to consolidate multiple exchanges and streamline procedural steps while performing endoscopic ultrasound biliary drainage. Physicians have provided positive feedback on initial cases. The company is also advancing enrollment in the THRIVE trial, evaluating the TIVUS Ultrasound System for renal denervation in the treatment of hypertension. Management continues to expect the technology, acquired through the SoniVie Ltd. acquisition, to reach the market in 2028.

Within Cardiac Rhythm Management, Boston Scientific is still facing competitive pressure and portfolio gaps, which it expects to address with PRECEDENT, its new defibrillation platform scheduled to launch in the second half of 2027.

Growth in the company’s Electrophysiology business has been supported by FARAPULSE, which has enabled a faster-than-anticipated transition to pulsed-field ablation (PFA). With U.S. PFA revenues now accounting for approximately 80% of the atrial fibrillation (AFib) market, the company has less room to offset competitive pressures. As a result, it now expects global EP growth to emerge flat in the second half of 2026.

The U.S. EP business is expected to regain momentum in the second half of 2027 with the launch of FARAWAVE Ultra, a high-density mapping and ablation catheter, along with the company’s entry into the intracardiac echocardiography market. Further improvement is forecasted in 2028 with the availability of FARAFLEX, a novel large-focal, high-density mapping and ablation catheter.

BSX Peers Update

Abbott (ABT - Free Report) recently announced that its Volt PFS system was used for the first time in Canada at the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal to treat AFib patients. The system, designed to integrate with Abbott’s EnSite X EP System to provide physicians with accurate 3D cardiac mapping and fewer catheter exchanges during an ablation, received Health Canada authorization in April 2026.

Another peer, Globus Medical (GMED - Free Report) , secured CE Mark for Excelsius3D, an intelligent, mobile imaging platform that combines 3D cone-beam computed tomography, 2D fluoroscopy and digital radiography in a single system. Excelsius3D is designed to function as a stand-alone intraoperative imaging platform or as an integrated component of the Excelsius Ecosystem with ExcelsiusGPS. Globus Medical secured FDA’s 510(k) clearance for the system in 2021.
