Micron Technology, Inc. (MU - Free Report) is generating cash at an impressive pace as strong AI-driven memory demand lifts revenues and margins. This growing financial strength gives the company more flexibility to invest in capacity while also returning more capital to shareholders.

In the third quarter of fiscal 2026, Micron generated $25.4 billion in operating cash flow, more than double the $11.9 billion produced in the previous quarter and nearly 5.5 times the $4.6 billion generated in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted free cash flow reached a record $18.3 billion compared with $6.9 billion in the second quarter.

The improvement was supported by strong operating performance. Third-quarter revenues jumped 346% year over year to $41.46 billion, while non-GAAP EPS rose to $25.11 from $1.91 a year earlier. Micron also ended the third quarter with $30.2 billion in cash, marketable investments and restricted cash.

Micron has already increased shareholder returns. In the second quarter of fiscal 2026, the board of directors approved a 30% increase in the quarterly dividend to 15 cents per share. In the first three quarters of fiscal 2026, the company returned approximately $1.09 billion through share buybacks and dividend payments.

Micron is also balancing returns with heavy investment needs. It spent $19.6 billion on capital expenditures in the first three quarters of fiscal 2026, as it expands capacity for AI memory. With cash generation rising sharply, MU has greater financial flexibility. If strong cash flows persist, Micron could have more room for dividends, buybacks and debt reduction while continuing to fund its AI-focused expansion.

In August, SK hynix announced a 40 trillion won share repurchase and cancellation and raised its shareholder-return target to more than 50% of cumulative free cash flow for 2025-2027.

Sandisk is also building a stronger shareholder-return story.
