T-Mobile US, Inc. (TMUS - Free Report) has raised its quarterly dividend payout by 15% to $1.17 per share from $1.02, underscoring management’s confidence in the company’s cash-generation prospects. The increased dividend is payable on Dec. 10, 2026, to shareholders of record as of Nov. 25.

The hike comes amid persistent macroeconomic uncertainty, including inflationary pressures, elevated interest rates and tariff-related concerns. Against this backdrop, T-Mobile’s expanding shareholder return program, solid operating momentum and improving free cash flow strengthen its investment case. However, intense competition and a highly leveraged balance sheet remain key considerations.

Strong Cash Flow Supports Shareholder Returns

T-Mobile continues to generate healthy cash flows, providing ample room to fund network investments while returning capital to shareholders. In the second quarter of 2026, operating cash flow increased 7% year over year to $7.5 billion, while adjusted free cash flow rose 4% to $4.8 billion. Management raised its 2026 adjusted free cash flow guidance to $18.4-$18.8 billion from the earlier range of $18.1-$18.7 billion.

The improving cash profile supports the company’s aggressive capital return strategy. During the second quarter, T-Mobile returned $3.3 billion to shareholders, comprising $2.2 billion in share repurchases and $1.1 billion in dividends. Cumulative shareholder returns since the launch of the program reached $54.6 billion through June 2026.

The latest dividend increase further demonstrates management’s commitment to enhancing shareholder value.

Healthy Service Revenue and ARPA Trends

T-Mobile’s underlying business momentum also remains encouraging. Second-quarter service revenues increased 9% year over year to $19 billion, while postpaid service revenues advanced 13% to $15.9 billion. Core adjusted EBITDA climbed 12% to $9.5 billion.

Postpaid ARPA increased 2% to $152.91, aided by customers migrating toward higher-value plans. More than 60% of customers on new accounts are opting for premium tiers, which should support further monetization.

Continued investments in network coverage and capacity, along with broadband expansion and contributions from recent acquisitions, are expected to support service revenue growth and profitability over the long term.

Macro and Competitive Risks Persist

Despite these positives, T-Mobile faces several headwinds. Postpaid net account additions declined 13% year over year to 277,000 in the second quarter, suggesting some moderation in customer growth.

Competition also remains fierce, with AT&T Inc. (T - Free Report) and Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ - Free Report) continuing to strengthen their wireless and broadband offerings. Sustained promotional activity could pressure subscriber growth and margins.

Moreover, inflation, higher borrowing costs, tariffs and supply-chain disruptions are likely to increase operating and device procurement expenses. T-Mobile’s sizeable debt burden also warrants monitoring, with short- and long-term debt totaling roughly $84.6 billion at the end of June 2026.

Price Performance

T-Mobile has declined 30.4% over the past year against the industry’s growth of 93.1%, lagging peers like AT&T and Verizon. AT&T has plummeted 10.1%, while Verizon is up 8.5% over this period.
