Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Arista Networks unveiled open Ethernet rack-scale solutions for high-density AI infrastructure.
  • ANETs Etherlink SU-14 supports up to 144 accelerators per rack and 1,024 XPUs across racks.
  • New optics can boost networking capacity to 6.5 Pb/s per rack while supporting advanced cooling.

Arista Networks, Inc. (ANET - Free Report) has unveiled a new open Ethernet rack-scale portfolio designed to support high-density artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across both scale-up and scale-out environments. Developed with AMD, Arm, Broadcom, d-Matrix, Meta, Microsoft and Qualcomm, the solutions offer cloud and enterprise customers a flexible alternative to proprietary AI systems.

Arista’s latest Etherlink SU-14 architecture extends Ethernet into scale-up environments, supporting up to 144 accelerators in a single rack and up to 1,024 XPUs through cross-rack configurations. It includes orthogonal chassis, cabled backplane and cross-rack designs, allowing customers to choose architectures based on their bandwidth, cooling and scalability needs.

For scale-out AI environments, the company’s rack-scale solutions support technologies such as ESUN, NVIDIA’s NVLink, NVLink Fusion and PCIe. Built on Arista’s Netdi foundation, the platform uses Ultra Ethernet Consortium standards, Multipath Reliable Connection, multi-plane routing, Dynamic Load Balancing and Cluster Load Balancing to improve AI workload performance and token-generation efficiency.

Arista’s rack designs also integrate liquid-cooled 7060EX7 switches with up to 102.4 Tbps of capacity per switch, alongside cooling manifolds, leak detection, rack controllers and backup power systems. The company’s next-generation optics, including XPO and open CPO/NPO, can raise networking capacity from 1.6 Pb/s to 6.5 Pb/s per rack compared with current OSFP-based switches.

As demand for high-performance AI infrastructure accelerates, the launch strengthens Arista’s position in AI networking by combining open Ethernet connectivity, high-density computing and advanced cooling technologies while helping customers reduce data center footprint and avoid proprietary lock-in.

How Are Competitors Advancing in AI Infrastructure?

Arista faces competition from Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO - Free Report) and NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA - Free Report) . Cisco is expanding its AI infrastructure business through its Secure AI Factory with NVIDIA, which now includes rack-scale systems. The solutions combine AI computing with Cisco’s networking, security and monitoring technologies for businesses and other large-scale AI deployments. The company is using its Nexus and Silicon One technologies to improve data movement across AI systems.

NVIDIA is advancing its AI infrastructure with the Vera Rubin platform, built to support large and complex AI workloads. The company is developing Spectrum-6 Ethernet to improve connectivity and data transfer between GPUs in AI data centers. NVIDIA is working with Amazon Web Services to add millions of GPUs to meet the growing demand for AI computing.
