Zacks Initiates Coverage of SSi With Neutral Recommendation

Read MoreHide Full Article

Zacks Investment Research has recently initiated coverage of SS Innovations International, Inc. (SSII - Free Report) with a Neutral recommendation. The company’s expanding surgical robotics footprint, rising procedure volumes and growing international presence support its long-term growth prospects. However, persistent losses, financing requirements and regulatory uncertainties remain key concerns.

SSi is a commercial-stage surgical robotics company focused on expanding access to robot-assisted procedures. Its flagship SSi Mantra Surgical Robotic System supports multiple surgical specialties, including urology, general surgery, gynecology and cardiac procedures.

The research report highlights several factors that could support SSi’s long-term performance. Expansion of the SSi Mantra installed base is strengthening its commercial foundation, with cumulative installations reaching 238 systems as of Sept. 8, 2026, up 42% from year-end 2025. Procedure volumes increased 79% to 14,103 over the same period, reflecting growing utilization and physician adoption. These trends could support recurring instrument, warranty and service revenues.

Stronger product adoption is also translating into revenue growth. Revenues for the first six months of 2026 increased to $25 million from $15.1 million a year earlier, supported by higher system and instrument sales. Gross profit rose to $12.4 million from $7 million. Continued system placements and growing procedure volumes could strengthen the company’s commercial scale.

International expansion provides another growth avenue. The SSi Mantra platform is now installed across 12 countries, with recent robotic surgery programs in Colombia and Sri Lanka extending its clinical presence. Establishing reference sites in new markets could support hospital adoption and gradually reduce dependence on India.

Additionally, the platform’s use across more than 170 procedure types and progress in telesurgery broaden its clinical applications. Its modular architecture and cost-focused manufacturing model could also encourage adoption among price-sensitive healthcare providers. Expanding demand for minimally invasive procedures provides a supportive backdrop for long-term growth.

However, investors should also consider several risks, as outlined in the report. Persistent operating losses and dependence on external financing could pressure financial flexibility and create shareholder dilution risks. The company reported a net loss of $6.2 million during the first half of 2026, while rising receivables could constrain operating cash flows.

Regulatory requirements for expansion into the United States and Europe could increase spending and delay commercialization. Competition from established surgical robotics manufacturers also raises execution challenges. Additionally, heavy dependence on India for revenues could increase exposure to domestic hospital spending trends and market conditions.

SSi shares have underperformed the broader market and relevant industry benchmarks over recent periods. Despite the stock’s significant decline, its valuation remains elevated relative to industry and sector peers.

SSi’s expanding commercial footprint and growing clinical applications provide opportunities for long-term growth. Nevertheless, profitability challenges, financing needs and execution risks temper the outlook. For more detailed insights and analysis, read the full Zacks Investment Research report on SSII.
