How much a stock's price changes over time is important for most investors, since price performance can both impact your investment portfolio and help you compare investment results across sectors and industries.

Another factor that can influence investors is FOMO, or the fear of missing out, especially with tech giants and popular consumer-facing stocks.

What if you'd invested in Casey's General Stores (CASY - Free Report) ten years ago? It may not have been easy to hold on to CASY for all that time, but if you did, how much would your investment be worth today?

Casey's General Stores' Business In-Depth

With that in mind, let's take a look at Casey's General Stores' main business drivers.

Founded in 1968 and headquartered in Ankeny, Iowa, Casey's General Stores, Inc. operates convenience stores primarily under the Casey’s and Casey’s General Store brands. As of July 31, 2026, the company operated 2,959 stores across 19 states, primarily in the Midwest. Approximately 71% of its stores were located in communities with fewer than 20,000 residents.

Casey’s stores carry a broad assortment of groceries, beverages, tobacco and nicotine products, health and beauty aids, automotive products and other merchandise. Most locations also offer prepared foods, including regular and breakfast pizza, doughnuts, breakfast items, and hot and cold sandwiches. As of July 31, 2026, 240 stores offered car washes and all but five locations offered fuel. Casey’s also ranks as the fifth-largest pizza chain in the United States by number of kitchens.

The company operates a limited number of stores under the GoodStop and CEFCO brands. These locations offer fuel, snacks, beverages, tobacco and nicotine products, and other essentials. Some do not have full-service kitchens and therefore carry a more limited prepared-food selection. Acquired locations are typically converted to the Casey’s brand after being remodeled to include a full-service kitchen. Stores whose layouts or locations cannot accommodate such a kitchen generally continue operating as GoodStop or under the acquired brand.

Casey’s combines its physical store network with an expanding technology and loyalty platform. As of Sept. 8, 2026, Casey’s Rewards had more than 11 million members. The company primarily generates revenues under four categories: Fuel, Grocery & General Merchandise, Prepared Food & Dispensed Beverage, and Other. In fiscal 2026, these represented 60.4%, 26.0%, 10.1% and 3.4% of total revenues, respectively. The Other category mainly includes wholesale fuel, car wash revenues and lottery activity. Three distribution centers are located in Ankeny, IA; Terre Haute, IN; and Joplin, MO. These centers supply grocery and general merchandise, as well as prepared food and dispensed beverage items to most stores. Casey’s also owns and operates a fuel terminal in Waco, TX, and self-distributes the majority of fuel to its stores.

Bottom Line

Putting together a successful investment portfolio takes a combination of research, patience, and a little bit of risk. For Casey's General Stores, if you bought shares a decade ago, you're likely feeling really good about your investment today.

A $1000 investment made in October 2016 would be worth $5,526.04, or a gain of 452.60%, as of October 12, 2026, according to our calculations. This return excludes dividends but includes price appreciation.

In comparison, the S&P 500's gained 262.70% and the price of gold went up 221.18% over the same time frame.

Analysts are anticipating more upside for CASY.

Casey's continues to benefit from solid inside sales momentum, supported by prepared foods, beverages and grocery categories. We expect inside same-store sales to increase 3.3% in fiscal 2027, while favorable sales mix and cost management support margin expansion. Fuel remains a key earnings driver, benefiting from strong margins and an expanded store network. CEFCO conversions are increasing prepared-food sales and creating further growth opportunities as Casey's expands its store base.Cash generation supports investment and shareholder returns. However, rising labor and other operating costs, substantial spending on remodels and new stores and variable-rate debt could constrain cash flow. Intense competition and uneven consumer demand could also pressure margins. We expect operating expenses to rise 6.3% in fiscal 2027.

Over the past four weeks, shares have rallied 5.00%, and there have been 6 higher earnings estimate revisions in the past two months for fiscal 2026 compared to none lower. The consensus estimate has moved up as well.
