Republic Services’ (RSG - Free Report) second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of $1.85 per share grew 4.5% year over year and surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.81 by 2.2%. Revenues increased 4.6% to $4.43 billion and beat the consensus mark of $4.36 billion by 1.5%.

How Is Republic Services Faring?

Management hiked the 2026 revenue guidance to $17.20-$17.30 billion and the adjusted EBITDA guidance to $5.53-$5.55 billion. The bottom line is anticipated at $7.23-$7.28 billion, while the adjusted free cash flow is projected at $2.54-$2.58 billion. The raised outlook highlights favorable operating execution, recycling commodity revenues and successful buyouts.

RSG’s core price increase lifted total revenues 5.3% year over year and related-business revenues by 6.4% in the second quarter of 2026. Average yield contributed 3.4% to top-line growth, while Recycling & Waste organic growth reached 3.7%. Pricing outpaced cost inflation, supporting revenues and EBITDA growth despite volume reducing total revenues by 1.6%. The company’s ability to raise prices without eroding economic benefit relative to inflation provides a competitive edge.

In the first half of 2026, Republic Services generated $2.38 billion in operating cash flow and $1.58 billion in adjusted free cash flow. Over the same period, it invested nearly $860 million in buyouts and returned $1.04 billion to shareholders through repurchases and dividends.

With the full-year adjusted free cash flow guidance raised to $2.54-$2.575 billion from the preceding view of $2.52-$2.56 billion, the company has the internal funding capacity to pursue acquisitions, invest in operations and maintain shareholder distributions. In the long run, RSG’s investment case is strengthened by its financial flexibility.

However, the adjusted EBITDA margin was 32.1% in the second quarter of 2026, flat year over year, despite 4.6% revenue growth. Prior-year event-driven landfill volumes lowered the margin by 50 basis points, while the average recycled commodity price fell $13 to $136 per ton. These factors diluted the benefit of pricing and cost discipline.

Long-term debt increased to $13.52 billion as of June 30, 2026, from $12.99 billion a year ago, while first-half interest expenses rose to $302 million from $285 million. The increase coincided with approximately $860 million in acquisition investment. Higher debt and financing costs consume cash that could otherwise support acquisitions, capital spending, or shareholder returns.
