Are Concerns Over CoreWeave's Debt Overblown? ETFs in Focus

Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Some analysts see strong returns despite CoreWeave (CRWV)'s heavy upfront spending and debt load.
  • CRWV raises its 2026 ARR target to $18.5B-$19.5B. Re-renting infrastructure: another source of revenues.
  • GCPU, ARKW, NCLD and WGMI offer exposure to CoreWeave through ETFs.

CoreWeave Inc.’s (CRWV - Free Report) shares plunged about 20% over the past week (as of Oct. 19, 2026) as rising bond yields heightened concerns about its debt-funded growth strategy. However, JPMorgan analysts, including Samik Chatterjee, believe CoreWeave’s business model remains fundamentally sound.

And concerns about CoreWeave’s rising debt and heavy cash burn may be exaggerated, according to analysts at JPMorgan Chase & Co, per Bloomberg, as mentioned on Yahoo Finance. They argue that the company’s growing financing needs reflect its rapid expansion rather than weak project profitability.

JPMorgan points to strong demand for computing capacity and long-term take-or-pay contracts, which secure customer commitments before new infrastructure becomes operational.

CoreWeave’s Contracts Offer Attractive Returns

JPMorgan estimates that a typical five-year contract generates an unlevered internal rate of return (IRR) in the mid-teens, comfortably above the company’s estimated blended cost of capital of 9% to 11%.

After repaying the debt, CoreWeave could retain cash equivalent to about 16% of the contract’s value. According to JPMorgan, that amount could cover approximately five years of data center obligations, even if the company does not renew the contract.

CoreWeave may continue to rely on external financing to support its growth for several years. JPMorgan estimates that cash generated by existing operations may not be sufficient to fund expansion until 2030.

CoreWeave’s Higher Pricing Supports Margins

CoreWeave expects Q2 2026 contracts to deliver contribution margins 5-10 percentage points higher than recently-signed contracts. Pricing for its newer Blackwell and Vera Rubin products has hit record highs, while older-generation offerings are holding firm.

Heavy Upfront Investment, Strong Long-Term Cash Flow

CoreWeave’s expansion requires heavy upfront investment, but revenue from secured contracts is expected to strengthen cash flow as new data centers become operational. Over time, earnings from each deployment should cover financing costs, repay asset-level debt and generate surplus cash, as suggested by JPMorgan.

Once the debt is cleared, the company can lease the infrastructure again after existing contracts expire, unlocking additional revenue without the original debt burden.

2026 Revenue Target Raised

CoreWeave raised its 2026 year-end annual recurring revenue (ARR) target to $18.5 billion-$19.5 billion, reflecting its growth ambitions and improving pricing environment. Full-year revenue guidance was raised to $12.4 billion-$13.2 billion from $12 billion-$13 billion.

Goldman Sachs Upgrades the Stock

Goldman Sachs also upgraded the neocloud provider to Buy from Neutral, as mentioned on Yahoo Finance. The analyst also upped the stock's price target from $106 to $139 per share.

Meanwhile, CoreWeave ended the second quarter with a revenue backlog of about $104 billion, reflecting customer commitments already secured, according to Yorkville Ives partner and senior managing director Dan Ives, as quoted on Yahoo Finance.

Ives argued that these commitments are backed by actual demand rather than speculative data center construction, calling the stock’s sharp sell-off a potential buying opportunity.

What About Valuation?

Despite ongoing debt and cash concerns, CoreWeave’s price/cash flow ratio stands at 16.40X currently, against 20.10X offered by the underlying Internet – Software industry. It shows the ratio is within the decent range. Price/Book (P/B) ratio stands at 5.47X, which looks fair, as compared with the industry average of 3.19X.
