Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Seabridge Gold will acquire 100% of Wyoming's Slaughterhouse Project, adding 163 mining claims.
  • SA will pay $300,000 upfront and up to $2.55 million in milestone payments, with royalties retained by Orogen.
  • Seabridge will test for gold and critical minerals using modern exploration methods.

Seabridge Gold Inc. (SA - Free Report) has agreed to acquire a 100% interest in the Slaughterhouse Project in southern Wyoming from Orogen Royalties Inc. This will expand Seabridge Gold’s exploration portfolio and provide an opportunity to pursue potential gold and critical minerals discoveries in the United States.

The transaction includes 163 U.S. mining claims, geophysical survey results, geological mapping, sampling and other prospect-evaluation data accumulated by Orogen over several years.

Under the purchase agreement, Seabridge Gold will pay $300,000 upfront, plus milestone payments totaling up to $2.55 million upon successful completion of specified objectives. Orogen will retain a 2.5% net smelter return (NSR) royalty on the existing claims, subject to a partial buyback, as well as a 0.5-1% NSR royalty within a broader area of mutual interest. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions.

Slaughterhouse Offers Potential for a Significant Discovery for SA

Southern Wyoming has a long history of copper and gold occurrences, but these mineralized areas have not undergone the comprehensive modern exploration needed to fully understand their potential. Seabridge believes the region could host an undiscovered, large, high-grade gold deposit with critical metals as valuable co-products.

The exploration concept focuses on hematite iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG) deposits, which offer higher grades than porphyry deposits and can also contain critical minerals. Australia's Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill deposits are examples of this deposit type. Owned and operated by BHP Group (BHP - Free Report) , Olympic Dam is one of the world's most significant deposits of copper, gold, uranium and nickel. BHP also owns Prominent Hill, which produces one of the highest grades of copper concentrate in the world.

Seabridge Gold plans to apply modern exploration technologies and geological models to test the Slaughterhouse target. This approach could provide new insights into a mineral system that has not been tested using similar modern exploration techniques in Wyoming. However, the project remains at an early exploration stage, and its commercial potential will depend on future exploration results and subsequent resource evaluation.

Seabridge Gold's principal assets include KSM and Bronson Corridor projects in British Columbia's Golden Triangle. Its additional projects include Snowstorm in Nevada's Getchell Gold Belt and the 3 Aces project in the Yukon. The Slaughterhouse acquisition adds an exploration opportunity to its portfolio, with potential exposure to critical minerals alongside gold.

Seabridge Gold falls under the Zacks Mining - Gold industry. Prominent players in the industry include Newmont Corporation (NEM - Free Report) and Barrick Mining Corporation (B - Free Report) .

Newmont Corp. is one of the world's largest producers of gold with several active mines in Nevada, Peru, Australia and Ghana. Newmont continues to invest in growth projects in a calculated manner. The company is pursuing several projects, including Tanami Expansion 2 and Cadia Panel Caves in Australia.

Barrick has many advanced exploration and development projects located across five continents. Barrick owns interests in producing gold mines in Argentina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Mali and the United States.
