E Raises Cash Flow Outlook & Production Targets

Francesco Gattei, chief transition and financial officer, raised Eni's 2026 cash flow from operations forecast to €16.5 billion, approximately 43% above its initial guidance.

Management increased its underlying production growth forecast to 6-7%, supported by project ramp-ups and contributions from newly combined upstream operations.

E also raised its Global Gas & LNG Portfolio pro-forma EBIT guidance to €1.5 billion. Gross capital expenditure is targeted at €7 billion, with net spending below €4.5 billion.

Eni Expands Shareholder Returns as Debt Declines

Gattei announced an increase in Eni's 2026 share repurchase program to €3.8 billion from €3.4 billion, alongside an extraordinary dividend totaling €1.3 billion.

The additional €0.46-per-share dividend brings total annual cash dividends to €4.4 billion. Management expects combined shareholder distributions of €8.2 billion, about 50% of projected operating cash flow.

Pro-forma gearing declined to 9%. Responding to UBS, Gattei indicated that achieving a net cash position was not an operating assumption, although continued favorable conditions could make it achievable.

E Advances Major Upstream Development Opportunities

Gattei highlighted more than 1.2 billion barrels of discovered resources in 2026, achieved at exploration costs below $1 per barrel.

Projects sanctioned during 2026 are expected to contribute 600,000 barrels per day to production by 2030, excluding Venezuela.

Responding to Mediobanca, Guido Brusco, chief operating officer of Global Natural Resources, outlined plans for Venezuela's Junin 5 field. Initial production could reach 200,000 barrels daily within 18-24 months, potentially expanding to 1 million barrels daily around 2032-2033.

Eni Targets Growth With Controlled Investment

During questioning from Santander, Gattei indicated that future annual capital expenditure could remain near current levels despite expanding growth opportunities.

Brusco explained that Venezuela's initial development would utilize existing infrastructure, limiting early capital intensity. Larger investments would accompany subsequent production phases.

For Argentina's LNG project, Brusco confirmed management's target of 65-70% financing. Regulatory approval under Argentina's investment incentive framework remains an important requirement before the targeted year-end investment decision.

E Sees Mixed Trends Across Transition Businesses

Enilive delivered third-quarter pro-forma adjusted EBITDA of €490 million, benefiting from stronger biorefining margins. Its full-year EBITDA guidance increased to €1.4 billion.

Stefano Ballista, Enilive's chairman and chief executive officer, told Berenberg that European renewable fuel requirements and U.S. regulatory developments support continued biofuel demand.

Plenitude faced stronger retail competition and unfavorable renewable market conditions. Gattei explained to Equita that these pressures contributed to reducing its annual EBITDA guidance to €1.2 billion from €1.3 billion.

Eni Faces Refining Costs & Chemicals Pressure

Management acknowledged persistent weaknesses in European petrochemicals despite restructuring progress at Versalis.

Adriano Alfani, Versalis' chief executive officer, explained to UBS that higher utility costs and weak demand were offsetting approximately €90 million in quarterly transformation benefits.

Separately, Gattei told BNP Paribas that Eni's fuel price caps could reduce quarterly earnings by several hundred million euros under prevailing market conditions.

E Maintains Its Capital Allocation Discipline

Management's overall message emphasized developing upstream resources while maintaining financial flexibility and distributing surplus cash to shareholders.

Eni's priorities remain production growth, capital efficiency and portfolio restructuring, alongside managing commodity volatility and competitive pressures across its transition businesses.
