SoFi’s Q3 Earnings Likely to Test Its Growth Momentum

SoFi Technologies heads into its third-quarter 2026 earnings report with investors watching whether strong customer activity translated into higher profits. We expect continued momentum across business lines to have offered an encouraging starting point for the quarter.

Customer engagement should have supported performance. SoFi exited June with 15.8 million members and 24.4 million products, while existing customers accounted for 51% of new product additions. Continued adoption of SoFi Plus, Money and Invest is likely to have supported financial-services revenues and transaction fees.

Lending is expected to have remained a major driver. Following record second-quarter originations of $14.8 billion, SoFi is expected to have benefited from demand for personal, student and home loans. Higher loan balances and deposits are likely to have supported net interest income, although funding costs, credit quality and changes in loan valuations warrant attention.

Fee income should have offered another growth scope. The loan platform business generated $143 million in second-quarter revenues, and new small-business and home-equity arrangements are likely to have added activity in the third quarter. Investors will also watch whether the Technology Platform continued monetizing clients and whether expanding loan volumes pressured operating or credit-related costs.

Investment products and payments may have provided support. SoFi introduced private-market funds in August, partnered with Payward and launched Mastercard stablecoin settlement in September. Given their timing, material third-quarter contributions are uncertain. More important will be whether cross-selling, brokerage activity and operating efficiency helped SoFi sustain revenue growth and protect profitability.

(UPST - Free Report) have experienced different trends, with Affirm Holdings just falling 5.8%, while Upstart has registered a 45.6% decline.

Valuation-wise, SoFi trades at a forward price-to-earnings of 18.8X, ahead of its industry’s average of 14.23X but well below its one-year median of 26.05X. SOFI stock is also currently trading at a reasonable discount compared with Affirm Holdings but at a premium to Upstart. Affirm Holdings is trading at a forward 12-month price-to-earnings of 31.49X, while Upstart is trading at 7.79X.

However, the Value Score of F suggests that SoFi may not be a bargain at current levels.

How to Play SoFi Technologies Stock Ahead of Q3 Earnings?

SoFi's growing membership, wider product adoption and diversified revenue streams provide a favorable backdrop for its third-quarter results. Strong lending demand and deposits could support net interest income, while the loan platform business and financial services activities offer opportunities for additional fees. Management's higher full-year revenue outlook adds confidence, although unchanged profitability targets suggest that investments and expenses may absorb some gains.

Meanwhile, expanding personal loan exposure makes credit performance especially important, and new digital-asset initiatives may need more time to contribute meaningfully. After a strong second quarter, expectations are already demanding, increasing the risk of disappointment if revenues or margins fall short. Given these competing factors, maintaining existing positions appears prudent at current levels until quarterly results offer clearer evidence of durable, profitable growth.
