Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (CDNS - Free Report) emphasized accelerating artificial intelligence adoption, expanding customer engagements and stronger demand across its businesses during its third-quarter 2026 earnings call.

Management highlighted the launch of domain-specialized AI models, rising adoption of agentic design tools and a record backlog as key developments supporting its decision to raise the full-year outlook.

CDNS Raises 2026 Outlook on Broad-Based Demand

CDNS reported quarterly earnings of $2.11 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.04. Third-quarter revenues of $1.63 billion surpassed the consensus mark of $1.61 billion.

Chief financial officer John Wall raised the 2026 revenue guidance to $6.387-$6.417 billion, reflecting approximately 21% year-over-year growth at the midpoint.

Non-GAAP earnings guidance increased by 30 cents to $8.37-$8.43 per share. The company expects a non-GAAP operating margin of 44.2%-45.2% and operating cash flow of approximately $2 billion.

For the fourth quarter, management projected revenues of $1.695-$1.725 billion and non-GAAP earnings of $2.19-$2.25 per share. The outlook assumes existing export control regulations remain substantially unchanged.

Cadence Positions Maestro at the Center of AI Strategy

Chief executive officer Anirudh Devgan introduced Maestro, a portfolio of domain-specialized AI models designed for chip and system development.

Initial results demonstrated up to 30% higher quality and fivefold greater token efficiency than general-purpose foundation models. Several customer deployments are underway.

During discussions with KeyBanc and Needham analysts, Devgan emphasized combining specialized models, intelligent model routing and integration with Cadence's engineering tools. Customers can customize models using proprietary data and deploy them on-premises or in the cloud.

CDNS Sees Agentic AI Adoption Accelerating

Devgan reported more than 100 active customer engagements involving Cadence's AI Super Agents, spanning digital, analog and system design.

MediaTek deployed ChipStack in production verification workflows, achieving 50%-70% improvement in verification coverage. Renesas reported a 34-fold productivity improvement using InnoStack, while ViraStack customer engagement increased fourfold.

Responding to a Baird analyst, Devgan highlighted accelerating deployments of newer agents across analog design, physical implementation and advanced packaging. He emphasized their integration with existing tools as a competitive differentiator.

Cadence Addresses AI Monetization and Recurring Growth

Recurring revenues increased 18% year over year compared with approximately 11% growth in the corresponding period last year.

During questions from Goldman Sachs and Citi analysts, management explained that agentic AI supports recurring revenues through direct adoption and increased consumption of underlying EDA software.

Wall clarified that Cadence monetizes design agents and orchestration capabilities while allowing customers to use their own language-model infrastructure. This approach preserves deployment flexibility and supports the company's software-focused business model.

CDNS Highlights Hardware Demand and Expanding Design Activity

Core EDA revenues grew 20% year over year, while semiconductor IP and System Design and Analysis revenues increased 24% and 30%, respectively.

Devgan highlighted sustained demand for Palladium and Protium hardware platforms, supported by increasingly complex AI and high-performance computing designs. The hardware business recorded another record quarter.

Addressing a Mizuho analyst, Wall acknowledged that hardware revenues can fluctuate with deliveries and installations. However, he reported a strong order pipeline, while inventory additions were intended to support existing customer demand.

Cadence Explains Backlog Strength and Margin Pressures

Backlog reached a record $8.2 billion, including $4.2 billion of remaining performance obligations expected to convert into revenues over the next 12 months.

Responding to a StoneX analyst, Wall attributed strong bookings during a lighter renewal year to expanded customer relationships and additional opportunities across the portfolio.

During a Wells Fargo exchange, Wall explained that integrating Hexagon's D&E business affected incremental profitability. The acquired operation contributed limited operating profit in 2026, although management expects integration improvements to benefit 2027.

CDNS Maintains Focus on AI-Led Expansion

Management maintained a confident outlook, emphasizing growing design complexity, broader customer participation in chip development and increasing adoption of integrated engineering solutions.

Devgan also highlighted opportunities among nontraditional semiconductor customers, which account for approximately 45% of Cadence's business. Management's priorities remain expanding agentic AI adoption, strengthening core product integration and sustaining profitable growth.
