The Quantum Investment Race Is On: 3 ETFs to Add to Your Portfolio Now

The global quantum computing race has shifted from laboratory curiosity to capital markets imperative. In 2025, global investment in quantum technology start-ups surged 6.3 times year over year to a record $12.6 billion, with private capital now dominating a sector once reliant on public subsidies (as per a report by McKinsey).

Looking ahead, the global quantum computing market is estimated to grow 40.5% from $3.62 billion in 2025 to $5.09 billion in 2026. The market is further projected to reach $16.27 billion by 2030 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 33.7% (as predicted by the Research and Markets firm).

This capital flood reflects a genuine commercial tipping point, with over 300 global companies now adopting quantum technology and industry revenues breaking the $1 billion threshold for the first time.

For investors, this inflection offers a golden opportunity to increase their exposure to the quantum computing industry. The most prudent way to do so would be via diversified vehicles like exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that offer the safest path to participate in the upside without betting on a single hardware modality.

Before exploring these ETFs, it is important to examine investment trends in recent years to better understand the scale of the opportunity and why diversified exposure could offer a balanced approach to investing in the quantum computing industry.

The Opening of Capital Floodgates for Quantum

The funding landscape for quantum computing has transformed in recent years.

While public funding and large government commitments heavily backed the ecosystem, private capital and massive multi-hundred-million-dollar mega-rounds surged in 2025.

The funding scenario has undergone a significant shift, with public sources accounting for roughly one-third of total investment in 2024 but only 3% in 2025, as private capital and public markets emerged as the primary funding drivers.

This investment surge is being driven by breakthroughs in quantum error correction, which have accelerated expectations for the arrival of fault-tolerant systems, alongside growing enterprise adoption, with one-third of business leaders now spending $10 million or more annually on quantum technology. Additionally, heightened concerns surrounding "Q-Day" are prompting governments to strengthen the security of encrypted infrastructure.

The first wave of sector consolidation and billion-dollar exits also validated the asset class, drawing institutional capital off the sidelines and bringing in more venture capital (VC) into a market once dominated by government grants.

Evidently, Quantum computing companies raised $3.9 billion in VC funding in 2025 across 125-160 deals, marking the highest annual total on record according to data reported by PitchBook.

ETF Exposure as the Optimal Strategy

Despite the huge investment wave mentioned above, quantum computing remains a sector where hardware winners are uncertain, with superconducting, trapped-ion, photonic, and neutral-atom modalities all having credible paths to scale.

Against this backdrop, investing in individual quantum computing stocks carries significant company-specific risks. Leading players such as IonQ and Rigetti Computing have declined more than 50% and 71%, respectively, over the past year, despite improving industry fundamentals.

ETFs solve this by providing diversified exposure across hardware, software, and established technology giants with quantum initiatives.

Quantum ETFs to Buy

Considering the aforementioned discussion, investors eager to capitalize on quantum computing's growth while mitigating the binary risk of any single technology bet may add the following ETFs to their portfolios:
