Healthcare Services Group, Inc. (HCSG - Free Report) raised its 2027 revenue growth expectations following its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, citing accelerating organic growth, strong client retention and its acquisition of NEXDINE Hospitality.

Management emphasized operational discipline and expanding opportunities across healthcare, senior living and campus markets while addressing margin sustainability, acquisition integration and bankruptcy recoveries during the analyst discussion.

The company reported third-quarter earnings per share of 36 cents, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 22 cents. Revenues totaled $479.6 million, marginally missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $479.9 million.

HCSG Raises 2027 Growth Expectations

Fourth-quarter revenues are expected between $535 million and $545 million, supported by new business momentum and the NEXDINE acquisition.

Healthcare Services Group increased its 2027 revenue growth outlook from mid-single digits to low double digits, incorporating mid-single-digit organic growth and NEXDINE's contribution.

During questions from UBS, CEO Ted Wahl emphasized that management capacity, client start-date preferences and a strong sales pipeline underpin organic growth expectations. Client retention remains above 90%.

Healthcare Services Group Expands Through NEXDINE

HCSG completed its $93.5 million acquisition of NEXDINE Hospitality on Oct. 6, expanding its presence in senior living and hospitality-focused markets.

Wahl expects NEXDINE to contribute more than $150 million in annual revenue, deliver comparable margins and provide double-digit growth opportunities.

Responding to RBC Capital Markets, CFO Vikas Singh explained that departmental integration remains underway, with internal milestones expected to conclude by year-end. NEXDINE will retain its brand identity and leadership.

HCSG Defends Its Cost Management Targets

Healthcare Services Group reported cost of services at 83.2% of revenues, below its 86% management target, reflecting operational execution and reduced bad debt expense.

Chief communications officer Matthew McKee attributed the performance to stronger systems adherence, regulatory compliance and budget discipline. However, management maintained its existing cost target.

During Baird's questioning, Singh cautioned that workers' compensation claims and bad debt remain unpredictable. He noted that longer-term evidence would be necessary before revising cost expectations.

Healthcare Services Group Details Genesis Recovery

HCSG recognized an estimated $6.1 million recovery related to the Genesis bankruptcy following developments in the restructuring process.

Singh clarified during UBS' questions that the recovery reduced bad debt expense and benefited third-quarter earnings. The company recorded a net bad debt benefit of $3.6 million.

Management indicated that additional recoveries remain contingent on claim allowances, total claims and distributable assets. Wahl declined to specify a final resolution timeline during RBC's questioning.

HCSG Discusses Operating Leverage and Expenses

Healthcare Services Group reported SG&A expenses of $48.5 million. Excluding a deferred compensation adjustment, expenses represented 10.2% of revenue, within management's 9.5% to 10.5% target range.

Singh explained during William Blair's questioning that SG&A comprises approximately equal fixed and variable components, creating opportunities for leverage as revenues increase.

However, professional fees and acquisition-related expenses contributed to higher quarterly costs. Singh emphasized that investments in personnel, technology and acquisitions would continue despite longer-term efficiency objectives.

Healthcare Services Group Maintains Capital Flexibility

HCSG generated $30.2 million in operating cash flow, or $20.7 million excluding payroll accrual movements, during the quarter.

HCSG’s cash and marketable securities were $204.3 million alongside an unused $300 million revolving credit facility, supporting organic expansion, acquisitions and shareholder returns.

The company repurchased $11.7 million in shares during the quarter, bringing year-to-date repurchases to $56.6 million under its $75 million repurchase plan.

HCSG Focuses on Sustaining Growth Momentum

Healthcare Services Group's management maintained a confident outlook, supported by improving client demand, operational execution and opportunities across its expanded service platform.

Wahl emphasized long-term demographic demand, while Singh reinforced disciplined capital allocation and measured cost management. Margin variability and integration execution remain important considerations as the company pursues its growth objectives.
