CHD Benefits From Broad-Based Brand Momentum

Global e-commerce revenues grew 20%, with online sales representing 25.9% of total consumer sales. Management highlighted market share gains supported by innovation, distribution expansion and targeted marketing investments.

The company also reported encouraging performance from new products, including THERABREATH toothpaste and rinse innovations, ARM & HAMMER DUAL DEFENSE cat litter and OXICLEAN MAX FORCE products.

Church & Dwight's Cost & Margin Analysis

Adjusted gross margin expanded 170 basis points year over year to 46.8%. The improvement reflected higher volumes, productivity gains, tariff refunds and favorable mix from acquisitions and portfolio actions. These benefits more than offset inflation and rising transportation costs.

Marketing expenses declined $12.2 million to $190.7 million, representing 11.9% of net sales, down 90 basis points from the prior-year quarter. The company continued investing in brand development and innovation to support its growth initiatives.

Adjusted selling, general and administrative expenses increased to $260.9 million from $240.9 million a year ago. The expense ratio rose 110 basis points to 16.3%, reflecting acquisition-related amortization and operating expenses, targeted investments and higher incentive compensation.

Despite higher administrative expenses, adjusted income from operations increased 10.1% to $297.8 million. Adjusted operating margin expanded 150 basis points to 18.6%, supported by improved gross profitability and lower marketing spending.

Church & Dwight Posts Growth Across Divisions

Consumer Domestic net sales increased 0.4% to $1,225.1 million. Organic sales advanced 4.4%, supported by 3.6% volume growth and a 0.8% contribution from pricing and product mix. The MISS MOUTH'S acquisition partially offset the reported sales impact of strategic portfolio actions.

Consumer International net sales increased 2.5% to $297.4 million. Organic sales climbed 7.8%, driven by a 9.1% increase in volumes, partly offset by a 1.3% decline in price and mix. THERABREATH, BATISTE, TOUCHLAND and OXICLEAN contributed to growth.

Specialty Products net sales advanced 5% to $79.6 million. Organic sales also increased 5%, reflecting 2.9% volume growth and a 2.1% contribution from pricing and product mix.

CHD Maintains Strong Cash Generation

Cash from operating activities totaled $841.2 million in the first nine months of 2026, down 1.3% year over year. Capital expenditures increased to $91.6 million from $67.2 million in the comparable period last year.

Church & Dwight ended September with $446.9 million in cash and approximately $2,200 million in total debt. The board also authorized a new $1,000 million share repurchase program, replacing the previous authorization and providing additional flexibility for capital returns.

Church & Dwight’s Outlook

Management now expects reported sales growth of approximately 0.5% in 2026 compared with its previous projection of flat to 1% growth. Organic sales are projected to increase approximately 5%, at the high end of the earlier 4-5% range.

Adjusted earnings are expected to grow approximately 7%, narrowing the previous projection of 6-8% growth. Adjusted gross margin is anticipated to expand approximately 100 basis points, while cash from operations is projected to reach roughly $1,175 million. Full-year capital expenditures are expected to total approximately $125 million.

For the fourth quarter of 2026, management expects organic sales growth of approximately 4%, supported by continued business momentum. Reported sales are projected to decline approximately 0.5%, entirely reflecting strategic portfolio actions undertaken in 2025. Adjusted earnings are expected to increase 17-19% year over year, alongside continued gross margin expansion.
