OVBC's Interest Income and Margins

Average earning assets increased to $1.57 billion from $1.44 billion year over year during the third quarter, primarily reflecting higher average loan balances. Interest income also benefited from OVBC's securities repositioning during the second half of 2025, when it sold $36.9 million in securities yielding 1.35% and reinvested the proceeds into securities yielding 4.52%.

However, the net interest margin (NIM) contracted to 4.03% from 4.05% a year earlier, reflecting funding costs rising faster than yields on earning assets.

For the first nine months of 2026, average loans increased $140 million, primarily within targeted commercial lending segments. Ohio Valley Banc funded this expansion largely through promotional certificates of deposit and money market accounts.

For the first nine months of 2026, return on average assets declined to 0.85% from 1.03% in the prior-year period. Similarly, return on average equity decreased to 8.14% from 9.95%. The NIM contracted to 3.99% from 4.03%, highlighting the continued impact of elevated funding costs on profitability despite growth in earning assets.

Ohio Valley Banc’s Credit Quality and Provisions

Credit costs remained a significant challenge. The provision for credit losses increased to $2.8 million in the third quarter of 2026 from $1.1 million a year earlier.

Quarterly net charge-offs totaled $6.4 million, including $3.3 million associated with an automobile dealership loan and $2.8 million related to a foreclosed commercial real estate asset.

For the first nine months, provisions reached $8.2 million from $2.7 million, reflecting higher charge-offs, a specific allocation for a hotel construction loan and additional reserves for loan growth.

The nonperforming loans ratio stood at 1.09% as of Sept. 30, 2026, compared with 1.40% as of Dec. 31, 2025. The allowance for credit losses represented 1.05% of total loans compared with 0.96% at year-end 2025.

OVBC's Noninterest Income and Expenses

The increase in quarterly noninterest income primarily reflected the absence of a $1.2 million loss on debt securities sales recorded in the prior-year quarter.

Noninterest expenses in third-quarter 2026 increased 5.3% to $12.1 million from $11.5 million, reflecting higher salaries, employee benefits, software spending and FDIC insurance costs.

OVBC's efficiency ratio in third-quarter 2026 improved to 63.35% from 69.70% in the year-ago quarter.

Ohio Valley Banc’s Balance Sheet

Total assets reached $1.66 billion as of Sept. 30, 2026, from $1.58 billion as of Dec. 31, 2025. The expansion reflected a $51.8 million increase in loans and a $25 million rise in balances maintained at the Federal Reserve.

Total deposits increased $83.8 million from 2025-end, primarily driven by growth in time deposits and money market accounts.

Shareholders' equity declined $0.5 million from 2025-end, as earnings were offset by dividend payments and a reduction in accumulated other comprehensive income.

OVBC's Management Commentary

CEO Larry Miller acknowledged that year-to-date performance remained below expectations, primarily because of losses associated with a limited number of commercial credits.

However, management highlighted continued loan growth and relatively stable margins as indicators of underlying business strength. Ohio Valley Banc emphasized disciplined execution amid elevated funding costs and expressed confidence in addressing credit-related challenges.

No specific financial guidance was provided.
