MA Maintains Revenue Growth Outlook

Chief financial officer Ling Hai reaffirmed Mastercard's 2026 revenue growth expectation at the high end of the low-double-digit range on a currency-neutral basis, excluding inorganic activity.

Fourth-quarter revenue growth is expected to be within the same range, although foreign exchange is anticipated to create a 1-percentage-point headwind.

During the analyst discussion, Hai clarified that some services projects and payment network deals shifted revenues from the fourth quarter into the third quarter. This timing benefit will create a corresponding offset in the final quarter.

Mastercard's Services Business Sustains Growth

Hai reported that value-added services and solutions revenues increased 19% year over year on a currency-neutral basis, reflecting the demand for cybersecurity, analytics, consumer engagement and authentication offerings.

Responding to Wolfe Research, Hai explained that approximately 60% of services are network-linked, allowing payment activity to support additional services adoption.

Chief executive officer Michael Miebach emphasized cybersecurity's growing importance as artificial intelligence creates fraud vulnerabilities. Mastercard's Digital Risk Protection offering already serves nearly 800 enterprise customers.

MA Addresses Cross-Border Spending Pressures

Cross-border volume increased 11% year over year, while switched transactions grew 9%. Worldwide gross dollar volume expanded 7% on a local currency basis.

Responding to Evercore ISI, Hai explained that cross-border card-not-present growth, excluding travel, moderated from 20% to 15%, primarily reflecting weaker intra-European activity.

Management attributed the moderation to European customs fees, promotional timing and comparisons against elevated cryptocurrency purchases. Hai emphasized that higher-yielding international cross-border activity remained resilient despite regional disruptions.

Mastercard Expands Agentic Commerce Capabilities

Miebach identified agentic commerce as an emerging payment opportunity, emphasizing secure transactions, verified AI agents, merchant readiness and global acceptance.

Mastercard highlighted its Agent Pay technology and partnerships with Shopify and OpenAI. Miebach also discussed Agent Connect, which helps merchants make their offerings discoverable through AI-driven shopping experiences.

During questions from Bernstein and UBS, Miebach clarified that intermediary single-use virtual cards are not Mastercard's preferred long-term solution. Management favors end-to-end tokenized transactions that preserve consumer protections, controls and rewards.

MA Integrates Stablecoins Through BVNK

Miebach discussed Mastercard's recently completed BVNK acquisition, emphasizing its role in connecting traditional currencies and stablecoins through existing financial infrastructure.

The Mastercard Global Money Platform allows financial institutions and fintechs to offer customers capabilities to hold, convert, send and receive fiat currencies and stablecoins.

Responding to KBW, Miebach highlighted BVNK's licensing infrastructure, compliance capabilities and specialist expertise. He described encouraging initial demand while acknowledging that commercialization remains in its early stages.

Mastercard Secures Issuer & Commercial Deals

Miebach highlighted renewals involving major European banks, alongside new issuer relationships in China and the United States, supporting Mastercard's network expansion.

In India, a new HDFC Bank small-business agreement is expected to add 3 million cards. Management also highlighted virtual-card opportunities across supplier payments and travel.

Addressing competition from account-to-account payment systems, Miebach emphasized Mastercard's strategy of partnering and competing in markets such as India and Brazil.

MA Focuses on Execution & Network Expansion

Management's commentary centered on expanding Mastercard's acceptance network, deepening customer relationships and increasing services penetration across existing payment flows.

Hai also emphasized disciplined customer incentives and pricing tied to delivered value. These priorities underscore Mastercard's focus on sustainable network economics while pursuing emerging commerce opportunities.

Mastercard's Zacks Rank & Style Scores

Mastercard currently carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), reflecting favorable earnings estimate revision characteristics and potential relative outperformance over the next one to three months. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
