Vertiv and Centerra Gold have been highlighted as Zacks Bull and Bear of the Day

For Immediate Release
Chicago, IL – November 2, 2026 – Zacks Equity Research shares Vertiv Holdings (VRT - Free Report) as the Bull of the Day and Centerra Gold (CGAU - Free Report) as the Bear of the Day. In addition, Zacks Equity Research provides analysis on Micron Technology (MU - Free Report) and NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA - Free Report) .
Everybody wants to talk about AI chips. NVIDIA this, NVIDIA that. But here's the thing, kids. Those fancy chips need electricity. They generate a TON of heat. Without the infrastructure to power and cool them, they're nothing more than expensive paperweights.
That's where today's Bull of the Day comes in. I'm talking about Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) Vertiv Holdings. Vertiv provides critical digital infrastructure, including power management, thermal management, and liquid cooling solutions for data centers. With hyperscalers spending billions building out AI capacity, business is absolutely booming.
Just look at the company's latest earnings report. Vertiv delivered adjusted EPS of $2.21, crushing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 21.43%. Revenue surged 61% year over year to $4.31 billion, beating expectations by 14.61%. Those are some monster numbers. But here's where things get really interesting.
Analysts have been scrambling to catch up. Over the last sixty days, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current year has jumped from $6.67 to $7.12. Next year's number has climbed from $8.88 to $9.50. That's the sort of earnings estimate revision activity that gets me excited. It's also why VRT is sitting pretty with a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
Those estimates translate into earnings growth of roughly 69.5% this year, followed by another 33.5% next year. Revenue growth isn't exactly taking a back seat either. Current projections call for $14.31 billion in sales this year, with next year's number swelling to $18.78 billion. That's over 31% revenue growth next year on top of an already enormous expansion this year.
A quick look at the Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise Chart tells the story. Earnings estimates continue marching higher while the stock has experienced some serious volatility. Despite gaining more than 43% year to date, VRT remains well below its 52-week high. That's an interesting divergence. The earnings picture keeps improving, but the stock hasn't kept pace with those upward revisions recently.
Now, nobody's confusing Vertiv with a bargain-basement value stock. Shares trade around 32.7 times current-year earnings. That's a premium multiple, no doubt. But with projected earnings growth approaching 70% this year and a PEG ratio around 0.75, there's plenty of growth supporting that valuation.
The Zacks Style Scores back up the bullish case too. Vertiv sports an A for Growth, an A for Momentum, and an A for its overall VGM Score. Of course, AI infrastructure spending won't grow at this pace forever. Execution risks and elevated expectations remain. But right now, the earnings revisions are moving in exactly the direction we want.
Gold has been one of the hottest trades on Wall Street. Investors have piled into the yellow metal looking for protection against inflation, geopolitical uncertainty, and a weakening dollar. Gold miners have been along for the ride, with some stocks putting up absolutely monster gains.
But here's the thing, kids. Just because gold is going higher doesn't mean every gold miner is a winner. Eventually, earnings matter. And when analysts start cutting their estimates, that's a warning sign you don't want to ignore.
That's exactly what's happening with today's Bear of the Day, Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell) Centerra Gold. Centerra Gold is a Canadian-based gold mining company with operations centered around its Mount Milligan mine in British Columbia and Öksüt mine in Turkey. The company operates in the Mining – Gold industry, which currently ranks in the Bottom 27% of our Zacks Industry Rank.
The reason for the unfavorable Zacks Rank comes down to earnings estimate revisions. Over the last sixty days, two analysts have lowered their earnings estimates for the current year. Two have also cut their numbers for next year. Not a single upward revision in either period. Those bearish moves have pushed the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current year down from $1.62 to $1.52 per share. That's nearly a 6% haircut in just two months.
Next year's estimate currently sits at $1.97, up from $1.90 sixty days ago, but the individual downward revisions are a reminder that analysts aren't exactly seeing eye to eye on the company's prospects.
Centerra actually delivered a positive earnings surprise in its latest quarter. Earnings came in 12.12% better than expectations. Revenue growth has been respectable too, with quarterly sales increasing nearly 27% year over year.
You'd think that would be enough to get analysts excited. Apparently not. Despite those numbers, the current-quarter earnings estimate has slipped from 38 cents to 34 cents over the last sixty days. That's more than a 10% decline in expectations.
A quick look at the Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise Chart tells the story. The stock has enjoyed an impressive rally, gaining more than 40% year to date and over 72% during the last twelve months. Meanwhile, current-year earnings expectations have been heading in the opposite direction. That's the sort of divergence that makes me nervous.

2 AI Stocks Poised to Surge on the Halloween Effect
The Halloween strategy is a bullish seasonal investment approach that encourages investors to buy stocks in November and sell them in April. Historically, stocks have performed better from November through April. Following this approach, investors should stick to growth-oriented artificial intelligence (AI) stocks during the November-April period, then shift to other asset classes during May to October.
Although the effectiveness of the strategy remains debatable, growing adoption of AI and strong end-of-year spending on technology could provide additional support to AI-related stocks. On that note, companies including Micron Technology and NVIDIA Corp. could gain from investors’ interest and benefit from the Halloween effect.
But investors shouldn’t just place their bets on these stocks based on an investing theory. Their strong fundamentals and growth potential offer compelling reasons to buy them now. Let’s take a closer look –
AI Demand Fuels Micron’s Growth and Earnings Outlook
Increase in demand for AI infrastructure has fueled growth for Micron’s cutting-edge high-bandwidth memory chips, driving revenues to $54.23 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter of 2026, way more than $11.32 billion a year ago, according to the company’s Sept. 30 press release. For fiscal 2026, revenues also jumped to $133.19 billion from $37.38 billion in fiscal 2025.
Looking ahead, Micron projects revenues of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, for the fiscal first quarter of 2027, banking on robust data center demand. The company’s profitability is also improving, with non-GAAP gross margin increasing to 87% in the fiscal fourth quarter from 84.9% in the fiscal third quarter.
Strategic customer agreements, an optimal product mix, and higher selling prices support Micron’s further growth outlook. The company’s expected earnings growth rate for the current and next quarter is 699.2% and 248.8%, respectively.
AI Demand and Expanding Margins to Boost NVIDIA’s Growth
NVIDIA’s revenues soared 106% year over year and 18% sequentially to $96 billion in the fiscal second quarter of 2027, boosted primarily by a jump of 117% in Data Center revenues to $89 billion, according to the company’s Aug. 26 press release.
Looking ahead, management expects continued growth, with revenues projected to come in at $108 billion, plus or minus 2%, in the fiscal third quarter of 2027. NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform has now entered full production, which has positioned the company to gain from the increase in demand for AI infrastructure.
Meanwhile, NVIDIA’s net income and GAAP operating income have increased. Its gross margin improved to 75% in the fiscal second quarter from 72.4% a year earlier. Strong margins and improving revenues further support NVIDIA’s growth outlook. The company’s expected earnings growth rate for the current and next quarter is 91.5% and 69.8%, respectively.
Since 2000, our top stock-picking strategies have blown away the S&P's +7.7% average gain per year. Amazingly, they soared with average gains of +48.4%, +50.2% and +56.7% per year.
