Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • FLEX shares jumped 13% in a week, backed by strong AI infrastructure demand and improved earnings guidance.
  • Flex's CPI revenues surged 54%, while adjusted operating margin expanded to 10.7%.
  • Flex faces $1.5-$1.6 billion in planned capital spending, rising debt and acquisition-related pressures.

Flex Ltd. (FLEX - Free Report) shares gained 13% in one week, drawing attention to whether the rebound can hold as AI infrastructure demand accelerates. The latest quarter showed faster growth, wider margins and a higher earnings outlook.

The counterweight is the cost of expansion. Heavy capital spending, acquisition-related debt and separation expenses could limit financial flexibility even as operating momentum improves.

FLEX’s AI Infrastructure Engine Is Accelerating

Cloud and Power Infrastructure revenues increased 54% year over year to $2.51 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2027. Adjusted operating margin for the segment expanded 240 basis points to 10.7%, helped by growth across Power and Cloud & Cooling.

Management now expects fiscal 2027 Cloud and Power Infrastructure revenues to increase 75%-85%, with adjusted operating margin of 11.5%-11.7%. That outlook strengthens the earnings case behind the recent rally, but it also raises the execution bar as Flex scales capacity and integrates acquired capabilities.

Flex Is Turning Growth Into Wider Margins

Flex’s consolidated adjusted operating margin improved 110 basis points year over year to 7.1% in the fiscal second quarter. Regulated Manufacturing Solutions margin rose 50 basis points to 6.4%, while Integrated Technology Solutions margin increased 20 basis points to 5.5%.

Productivity gains, higher-value programs and favorable business mix are helping convert revenue growth into better profitability. Flex raised its fiscal 2027 adjusted operating margin outlook to 7.6%-7.8% from 7%-7.2%, giving investors evidence that the growth cycle is reaching more than the top line.

FLEX’s Earnings Outlook Adds Support

Adjusted earnings rose 49.4% year over year to $1.18 per share and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.05 by 12.4%. Revenues increased 24.8% to $8.49 billion and topped the consensus mark by 3.9%.

Flex also raised fiscal 2027 adjusted earnings guidance to $4.84-$5.16 per share from $4.42-$4.74. The higher outlook indicates that demand and margin gains are flowing through to earnings, supporting the fundamental case for the rebound.

Flex Still Faces Costly Expansion Risks

The growth plan requires substantial funding. Flex expects fiscal 2027 capital expenditures of $1.5-$1.6 billion, while long-term debt stood at $5.21 billion as of Sept. 25, 2026, compared with $3.75 billion at fiscal 2026-end. Separation costs and acquisition financing add further pressure on free cash flow and financial flexibility.

Competition also remains intense. Jabil Inc. (JBL - Free Report) said AI infrastructure contributed to significant growth in fiscal 2026 as it brought new capacity online. Celestica Inc. (CLS - Free Report) , another data-center infrastructure supplier, reported 83% year-over-year revenue growth in third-quarter 2026. Those investments and growth rates reinforce the competitive bidding and execution pressure facing Flex as AI infrastructure spending expands.

FLEX’s Signals Suggest Measured Optimism

The one-week jump is backed by faster Cloud and Power Infrastructure growth, wider margins and higher fiscal 2027 earnings guidance. Still, capital intensity, leverage, consumer softness and the demands of the planned Axiom separation argue against treating the rally as an unqualified bullish signal.

FLEX currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.

Because Style Scores are designed to complement the Zacks Rank, the combined picture supports measured optimism rather than a clear buy signal after the recent surge.
