Factors Likely to Have Shaped USA Rare Earth’s Q3 Performance

USAR’s magnet manufacturing facility in Stillwater, OK, has recently been commissioned and commenced commercial production. However, the company has yet to generate revenues from the sale of sintered neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) permanent magnets. Meanwhile, its proposed Blacksburg facility remains in the early stages of development.

USA Rare Earth generated revenues of $5.8 million in the second quarter of 2026 entirely from its metal-making operations following the acquisition of Less Common Metals on Nov. 18, 2025. The company had no operating revenues before the acquisition date. The Zacks Consensus Estimate of $6.5 million for third-quarter 2026 revenues primarily reflects the expected contribution from Less Common Metals, with no comparable revenues in the prior-year quarter.

USA Rare Earth reported a gross loss of $1.6 million in the second quarter of 2026, translating into a negative gross margin of 27.2%. Substantially higher raw material costs, which were not fully offset by increases in selling prices, led to the loss in the quarter. The persistence of these cost pressures is likely to have resulted in another gross loss in the third quarter.

Additionally, elevated selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses, driven by higher legal and consulting costs and increased headcount as the company expanded its organizational infrastructure, are expected to have weighed on operating performance. Higher research and development (R&D) spending to support its manufacturing and technology development initiatives is also likely to have added to the cost burden, potentially resulting in another operating loss in the quarter.

USAR’s Price Performance

USA Rare Earth shares have fallen 43.1% in a year against the industry’s 11.9% growth.
