Q4 QQQ Roadmap: Navigating AI Turbulence & Market Headwinds
2026 Stock Market Review
Here is a roadmap of what has occurred with the Nasdaq 100 Index in 2026.
Overall, there are 3 major takeaways:
1) The market continues to climb the proverbial wall of worry. If I had told you oil and rates are where they are, and the market has held up this well, few would have believed me.
2) The market and the economy depend heavily AI. The slightest concern of AI infrastructure spending slowing sends stocks crashing.
3) Market indices don't tell the full story.
Tech Destruction
Last year, investors complained that tech was holding up the market; now the narrative has flipped. QQQ just suffered its worst 3-day decline since "Liberation Day." Meanwhile, according to Morgan Stanley, U.S. tech momentum, or the lack of it, has been worse than the dot-com bust.
What is Holding Back the Equity Market?
· Inflation/Higher Interest Rates
· AI Political Headwinds
· AI Funding/Debt Fears
· Gravity/Profit Taking
Below I explain why the market will overcome these hurdles in the coming months:
Inflation & Higher Rates
Higher energy prices have led to inflation concerns and higher interest rates. That said, geopolitical energy shocks are often short-lived. Tuesday, energy prices fell sharply after Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported progress toward a US–Iran agreement involving nuclear concessions and frozen funds.
The latest projections lean heavily toward 3 to 4 rate hikes (25 bps increments) over the path extending into mid-to-late 2027. According to BlueKurtic Market Insights (@BlueKurtic), the data shows that equities can perform well during rate-hiking cycles, especially if the pace is measured. This looks like a non-cyclical hike, with no more than 2-3 hikes. This scenario usually hasn't been bad for stocks. The last non-cyclical hike was in 1997, and the S&P 500 gained 40% over the next year, outperforming longer hiking cycles.
Midterm Election Impact: Gridlock is Good
According to a Reuters Poll, only a third of Americans approve of the fast pace of data-center construction. In my view, the stock market has been pricing in a Democratic "Blue Wave" for a few months now, and that is part of why we have seen carnage in AI stocks. Nevertheless, the stock market during periods of divided government has "typically exceeded returns achieved when one political party controls the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives."
The stock market has been pricing in a "Blue Wave" for a few months now, and that is part of the reasons we have seen carnage in AI stocks. In other words, because the market is a forward discounting mechanism, I believe it will result in a classic "sell the rumor, buy the news" situation. Seasonality data backs this notion up. The S&P 500 has finished higher in the six months following every midterm election since 1950. That's 19 consecutive elections with an average gain of nearly 15% regardless of which party came out on top.
AI Debt/Funding Fears
CoreWeaveshares plunged in October after its bond yields jumped to distressed levels. Although CoreWeave is plagued by high-debt levels, the market has been acting as if it will go bankrupt. However, betting markets suggest that won't happen any time soon. In September, PolyMarket priced a 2027 CoreWeave bankruptcy as high as 50%. Today, that number is just 12%.
Tech Stock Gravity & Profit Taking
Earlier this year, many AI-related names went too far, too fast. For example, SanDisk blew past the 4.236% bull flag Fibonacci extension by a lot (highly unusual and very rare) and jumped 4,000% in a year. Also, shares were 264% above the 200-day. Typically, a stock 200% above the 200-day is very extreme. In other words, AI stocks got too far ahead of themselves. I think of the 200-day MA as a bungee cord. If it gets too far, it pulls you back in. However, even the strongest stocks retreat to the 200-day. Now, I believe it has overshot. The first touch is often a fantastic area. We are seeing this across many AI stocks including, Marvell, Arm Holdings, Micron and many others.
Bottom Line
While headline fears around AI leverage, interest rates, and political shifts have triggered sharp sector rotation, the market's technical foundation remains intact. Extended growth leaders are completing necessary mean-reversion pullbacks to major moving averages, clearing out leverage while forward-looking indicators point to a classic post-midterm rally. As historical seasonality and political gridlock align with favorable risk-reward entries across core infrastructure names, the current pullback presents a compelling backdrop for the next leg higher.
Research Chief Names "Single Best Pick to Double"
From thousands of stocks, 5 Zacks experts each have chosen their favorite to skyrocket +100% or more in months to come. From those 5, Director of Research Sheraz Mian hand-picks one to have the most explosive upside of all.
This company targets millennial and Gen Z audiences, generating nearly $1 billion in revenue last quarter alone. A recent pullback makes now an ideal time to jump aboard. Of course, all our elite picks aren't winners but this one could far surpass earlier Zacks' Stocks Set to Double like Nano-X Imaging which shot up +129.6% in little more than 9 months.
