Celanese Partners With Rochling to Expand Lower-Carbon POM Applications
Read MoreHide Full Article
Key Takeaways
Celanese collaborates with Rochling Industrial to advance lower-carbon POM solutions.
CE's POM ECO-C materials use captured CO2 to reduce carbon footprints while retaining performance properties.
The partnership supports Scope 3 emissions reduction goals and cuts reliance on virgin fossil resources.
Celanese Corporation (CE - Free Report) announced a collaboration with Rochling Industrial to advance the use of lower-carbon polyoxymethylene (POM) solutions in stock shape applications. Under the agreement, Rochling Industrial will transition to Celanese's POM ECO-C materials, which use carbon capture and utilization (CCU)-based chemicals.
Celanese's patented technology converts captured carbon dioxide emissions into high-performance POM polymer using chemical building blocks derived from CCU. The POM ECO-C grades have reduced product carbon footprint and incorporate sustainable materials through a mass balance approach. These materials retain essential properties including rigidity, dimensional stability, sliding performance and wear resistance.
This will support customers to comply with the Scope 3 emissions reduction targets while maintaining material performance and quality. The agreement also highlights Celanese's ability to commercialize lower-carbon engineered materials at a large scale through its integrated technology, global POM footprint and ECO-C portfolio.
For Rochling, the initiative supports efforts to reduce reliance on virgin fossil resources by reusing captured CO2 as a raw material. The adoption of POM ECO-C grades manufactured will increase sustainability in the supply chain of a wide range of applications without compromising the needs of customers.
CE's shares have gained 36.3% in the past year compared with the industry’s 17.1% rise.
