AEE's Segment Earnings Show Broad Improvement

Higher infrastructure investment earnings, weather-driven electric retail sales and lower income tax expenses supported growth. Increased maintenance costs and interest expenses partially offset these benefits.

Ameren Illinois Natural Gas reported a loss of $7 million, narrower than the year-ago loss of $13 million, benefiting from infrastructure investments included in new service rates. Ameren Parent's loss widened to $81 million from $73 million, primarily due to higher income tax and interest expenses, partially offset by innovative energy technology investment gains.

AEE’s Financial Condition

Ameren reported cash and cash equivalents of $40 million as of Sept. 30, 2026, compared with $13 million as of Dec. 31, 2025.

Long-term debt totaled $20.44 billion, up from $18.21 billion at the end of 2025.

For the first nine months of 2026, net cash provided by operating activities declined to $2.19 billion from $2.40 billion a year earlier. Capital expenditures increased to $4.09 billion from $3.12 billion, reflecting continued investment in utility infrastructure.

Ameren’s Guidance

Ameren raised its 2026 earnings guidance to $5.35-$5.55 per share from $5.25-$5.45. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2026 earnings is pegged at $5.41, which is lower that the midpoint of the company’s guided range.

The company expects 2027 earnings to be in the band of $5.70-$5.90 per share. The midpoint of $5.80 represents 8.4% growth from the original 2026 guidance midpoint of $5.35.
