PPG Industries Unveils Teslin EMI/RF Shielding Material

Read MoreHide Full Article

PPG Industries, Inc. (PPG - Free Report) recently introduced PPG TESLIN EMI/RF (electromagnetic interference/radio-frequency) shielding material. It is a moldable, flexible and affordable solution, which may be customized for providing specific shielding performance and functionality.

The product is geared for electronic applications, which require shielding to function properly. It can also be used to protect RF transponders or provide a durable grounding path. Moreover, it can be used in pouches for credit cards, electronic toll passes, cell phones, circuit boards, grounding tapes, antennas, safe rooms, electronic devices and actuated chips.

The material, which has its patent pending with the Patent and Trademark Office, is gaining interest globally. It can be used a shielding solution in advanced electronic passports (e-passports) due to its ability to protect travelers’ personal data from fraudulent access. PPG Teslin substrate is a key component used by more than 75 nations in their e-passport designs.

The transition to PPG Teslin EMI/RF shielding material from PPG Teslin substrate enables government passport designer to create an additional layer of protection against data skimming. Also, this may be achieved without considerably increasing costs of production.

The material can be customized to meet specific requirements and it comes in multiple grade as well as thickness options. Similar to the Teslin substrate version, it is compatible with a wide range of finishing techniques, including perforating, molding, folding, gluing and stitching, without compromising the effectiveness.

Produced by PPG Industries in Barberton, OH, PPG Teslin substrate provides a number of benefits such as laser-engraving capabilities, high-definition color photos, issuance options and built-in tamper evidence. It is part of the company’s specialty coatings and materials product portfolio.

Shares of PPG Industries have gained 9.7% in the past year, against the 20.2% decline of the industry.
