American Airlines Plans Extra Services for Latin America
Read MoreHide Full Article
American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL - Free Report) plans to fortify its presence in Latin America by adding flights to three existing services next year. Additionally, the carrier has announced the extension of its seasonal services to important European destinations by a month. Also, the airline will introduce a flight connecting Boston (BOS) with London Heathrow (LHR).
Ramped Up Services to Latin America
American Airlines will add a flight each on the routes connecting Miami (MIA) with Lima, Peru (LIM), Santiago, Chile (SCL) and São Paulo (GRU). Effective Apr 7, 2020, customers will get a third daily year-round service between MIA and LIM. Additionally, starting winter 2020, the airline will initiate a second flight on the MIA-SCL route and a third one on the MIA-GRU route.
Service Extension to Key European Cities
The carrier also intends to stretch its timeline for seasonal services between New York (JFK) and Rome (FCO), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Dublin (DUB) as well as between Chicago (ORD) and Barcelona (BCN) by a month. The JFK-FCO service will now operate between Mar 29, 2020 and Oct 23, 2020 (previous season: May 3-Oct 27) while the DFW-DUB service will operate between May 7, 2020 and Oct 23, 2020 (previous season: Jun 6-Oct 27). The ORD-BCN service will be operational in the Apr 6, 2020-Oct 23, 2020 period (previous season: May 3-Oct 27).
Following the launch of a daily service connecting Boston (BOS) with London Heathrow (LHR) on Mar 29 next year, customers will have the option of choosing from five daily flights among American Airlines and its joint business partner British Airways. The new operation is in response to customer demand for extra services. To cater to this increased demand, the airline earlier announced a seasonal service to Nassau and Grand Cayman.
Each of the above-mentioned services is subject to government approval. Tickets will be available for booking from Oct 7 onward for all services except MIA-SCL and MIA-GRU, which can be purchased in December.
Shares of Allegiant, Copa Holdings and SkyWest have rallied more than 49%, 25% and 29%, respectively, so far this year.
