In Mar 2013, JDS Uniphase acquired Arieso, a leading provider of location-based intelligent software for global telecom networks.
This software locates, stores and analyzes data from customer’s devices and enables wireless operators to deploy small cells strategically to avoid network congestion.
JDS Uniphase has innovated Arieso’s LIS so that the wireless operators can monetize the location data they have already access to. Using LIS, the wireless operators can sell the aggregated and anonymous trend information that they colleted from individuals’ mobile location data who are connected on their respective networks. This information is of immense importance to several business enterprises and advertising and marketing firms.
Business enterprises thoroughly analyze these information to take vital decisions, such as whether to open a new store or not, where to open it, when to launch new advertising campaign or which demographic segment to target etc. JDS Uniphase projects this market size to reach $11 billion by 2016. Arieso has a solid client base that includes several global telecom giants, such as AT&T Inc. (T - Analyst Report), Telefonica S.A. (TEF - Analyst Report) and Vodafone Group plc. Location Insight Service is a more advanced form of the existing real time Location Based Service (LBS) for individual subscribers. While LBS targets specific individuals to collect location data, LIS never opts for subscriber specific data. LIS technology helps mobile operators to aggregate huge volumes of anonymous location data over time and shares this information with third-party systems without the need for a data warehouse.
