Visa (V) Launches App to Tap Digital Commerce Market
In an effort to increase the usage of its debit, credit and prepaid card offering, Visa Inc. (V - Free Report) has launched the Visa Digital Commerce App. This app will help financial institutions to customize and provide their own branded mobile apps for their customers to use.
Though internally the service is called Visa Digital Commerce App, customers using the app will get the brand name of the financial institution it is attached to. Though the app is provided by Visa, it will have various features pursuant to the issuer’s needs.
This app will enable Visa’s financial institution clients to provide services such as real-time account balance information and card controls. Account holders will also get to know about recent transactions or fraud concerns, and innovative token services that bring greater security to contactless payments.
Visa is an active participant in the transformation of the payments industry from plastic to digital. To facilitate digital payments, Visa recently launched Visa Token Service and Visa Developer Platform. Visa Token Service provides a secure environment to help drive innovation in online and mobile commerce. Visa Developer Platform is an open platform that provides access to hundreds of Visa APIs and software department kits for some of Visa's most popular payment products and capabilities.
The roll out of this service by Visa is in sync with the growing use of mobile wallets. This app will attract the likes of financial institutions that are eager to participate in mobile wallets and attract more customers.
The Visa Digital Commerce App has been quite successful given its adoption by more than 40 big and small financial institutions in the U.S.
