Read MoreHide Full Article
The Q3 earnings picture so far has been quite encouraging. In fact, this earnings cycle is on track to be the first quarter to record earnings growth after five consecutive quarters of declines. As per our latest Earnings Preview, Q3 earnings are expected to be up 0.1% from the same period last year on the back of 1.5% higher revenues – better than our initial expectation of an earnings decline of 2.9%. Moreover, we expect the trend to continue in the forthcoming quarters.
While the initial fears of continued ‘earnings recession’ are gradually dissipating, let us take a look at some of the stocks in the media sector that are due to report their third-quarter 2016 results on Oct 27.
The stock has an Earnings ESP of 0.00% as both Most Accurate estimate and the Zacks Consensus Estimate stand at 4 cents. According to our proven model, a company needs the right combination of two key ingredients – a positive earnings ESP and a Zacks Rank #3 or better – to increase the odds of an earnings surprise. Thus, Sirius XM doesn’t conclusively show that it is likely to beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate this quarter (read more: What's in Store for Sirius XM Holdings in Q3 Earnings?).

Starz has a Zacks Rank #3 and an earnings ESP of -22.64% as the Most Accurate estimate currently stands at 41 cents, below the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 53 cents. Starz’s combination of a Zacks Rank #3 and negative ESP doesn’t conclusively show that it is likely to beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate this quarter. World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. is an integrated media and entertainment company. The company has a Zacks Rank #3 and 0.00% ESP of 0.00% as both the Most Accurate estimate and the Zacks Consensus Estimate are pegged at 18 cents.
