Ford Debuts Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Development Vehicle

Ford Motor Company (F - Free Report) recently launched the next-generation Fusion Hybrid autonomous development vehicle. The vehicle will be displayed at the CES and North American International Auto Show, slated to be held in Jan 2017.

The next-generation Fusion Hybrid autonomous development vehicle is based on the current Ford autonomous vehicle platform but has stronger processing power owing to the new computer hardware. The adjusted sensor technology allows better vision of the surrounding to the car. The vehicle features new LiDAR sensors with a sleeker design and improved visibility. Notably, the vehicle uses only two sensors compared to four used earlier but still it receives the same information.

The latest launch features improvements on two main elements required for a self-driven vehicle, namely the virtual driver system and the autonomous vehicle platform. The new Fusion Hybrid autonomous is an upgrade of the current generation which was launched three years ago.

Ford is working on bringing autonomous vehicle technology to the market. The company plans to add several driver-assist technologies to its vehicles over the next five years.

So far this year, Ford’s shares have lost 11.6% while the Zacks categorized Auto Manufacturers-Domestic industry saw a 2.8% increase. The drop in the stock price was largely a result of weak operating results across most regions and dismal forecast for the full year.
