International Business Machines Corporation (IBM - Free Report) recently announced that Praktiker, a home DIY retail chain based in Bulgaria has tripled both its online sales and in-store purchases since its adoption of the company’s omnichannel commerce solution five months ago.

Praktiker’s new website features an online catalogue of more than 40,000 items providing useful information to the end user. The website has been viewed by 750,000 unique users since its launch. Notably, the average number of visits has tripled from approximately 1500 per day initially to 5000 per day at present.

Adoption of IBM’s omnichannel commerce solutions namely WebSphere Commerce (for both for B2B and B2C) and Sterling Order Management (for providing insights on supply and demand, order fulfillment processes) by retail merchants has increased in recent times.

We expect that the growing adoption of IBM solutions (retail, Watson) will continue to boost the top line.

Notably, shares of IBM gained 0.43% on Tuesday. The stock has outperformed the Zacks Computer - Integrated Systems industry on a year-to-date basis. While the industry gained only 3.9% during the period, the stock appreciated 5.1%

We note that competition is intensifying in the software solutions space with the presence of major players such as salesforce.com’s (CRM - Free Report) Salesforce Commerce Cloud, SAP SE’s (SAP - Free Report) SAP Hybris and Oracle’s (ORCL - Free Report) Oracle Commerce.

We believe that the ongoing adoption trend for IBM’s software solutions platforms augurs well for the company in the long run.

As of the last reported quarter, IBM’s Cognitive Solutions (solutions software and transaction processing software) revenues grew 1.4% on a year-over-year basis (up 2.2% at constant currency) to $5.30 billion.
