In a customer-friendly move, JetBlue Airways Corp. (JBLU - Free Report) announced enhanced flight service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Mexico City International Airport (MEX) as well as between Orlando International Airport (MCO) and MEX. JetBlue aims to increase flights to four daily roundtrips between Mexico City and the U.S. – two each on the Fort Lauderdale and Orlando routes. The flights can currently be booked on a special introductory one-way offer of just $99.
JetBlue’s Airbus A320 aircraft will serve the Fort Lauderdale to Mexico City route. The aircraft , which offers the largest legroom space in coach, is EQUIPPED WITH all modern features like free Fly-Fi (the fastest broadband Internet). It also offers passengers with free, live DIRECTV programming, over 100 channels of SiriusXM (SIRI - Free Report) radio on every seat and first-run Hollywood movies.
The new and improved Mexico City service will help JetBlue expand in several core areas. At Fort Lauderdale, JetBlue plans to reach 140 daily flights in the near future. At Orlando, the extended service will grow JetBlue’s Florida focus city. Lastly, JetBlue plans to operate around 315 daily flights in Latin America and the Caribbean region this year.
We note that JetBlue recently reported first-quarter 2017 earnings numbers. The carrier posted mixed results, reporting better-than-expected earnings but lower-than-expected revenues. Other key sector participants like Hawaiian Holdings and Allegiant Travel Company (ALGT - Free Report) also recently reported their first-quarter 2017 numbers.
