Is Overstock.com Looking to Implement Two-Day Delivery?
As Amazon.com (AMZN - Free Report) and Walmart (WMT - Free Report) continue to lead the way in online shopping, a new player has come forth offering the consumer favorite two-day delivery: Overstock.com .
Overstock is a popular online retailer that provides a broad range of products, including everything from apparel and accessories to home décor, furniture and electronics “at the best price possible.” If you have shopped on their website before, you’ll find it similar to Wayfair (W - Free Report) and a digital version of a TJ Maxx (TJX - Free Report) store.
According to the New York Post, Overstock is in advanced talks with XPO Logistics (XPO - Free Report) , a global transportation and logistics company, about creating a two-day delivery program. If implemented, the deal would allow the e-commerce firm to ship furniture and other bulky items in two days, something that would help Overstock compete with Amazon and Wayfair.
If a deal were to happen, sources told the Post that Overstock would “outsource all of its warehousing, distribution, transportation, returns, and last-mile deliveries to XPO.”
“Overstock [would] be able to become the first retailer to offer two-day delivery to 87 percent of consumers in the US. By selecting XPO, Overstock [would] leapfrog Wayfair,” the source continued.
XPO also has a deal with Amazon, and its chief executive Bradley Jacobs announced earlier this year that the company will help the company manage its furniture and appliance warehouses.
But if there’s going to be any winner out of this deal, it will likely be XPO Logistics, as the company has created quite the niche for itself in the delivery and online retail world, working with some of hottest names in e-commerce.
