Ford’s North America business remains strong, and its F-Series sales topped 236,000 units in Q2; the F-Series is also on a record-setting pace through the first six months of the year.

However, the auto giant’s Asia Pacific and Europe regions suffered through a challenging quarter, and because of this, Ford is now lowering its full year 2017 adjusted EPS range to $1.30 to $1.50 per share.

The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.

Ford shares have lost about 15.4% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's gain of 5.5%.
