BlackRock Utilities & Telecomm A (MDGUX) invests the majority of its assets in domestic and foreign utilities and telecom companies. It may purchase both equity and fixed-income securities. It may invest in both developed and emerging markets. The fund returned 22.26% over the last one year period.

The BlackRock fund has a minimum initial investment of $1,000 and an expense ratio of 1.36% compared to a category average of 1.41%.

BlackRock High Yield Bond A (BHYAX) seeks both capital growth and a steady income flow. It focuses on purchasing bonds rated at investment grade with maturity periods of ten years or less. Up to 10% of its assets may be used to purchase foreign bonds denominated in currencies other than the U.S. dollar. The fund returned 52.74% in the last one year period and has a ten year annualized return of 6.53%.

James S. Keenan is the fund manager and he has managed this BlackRock fund since 2007.

BlackRock Latin America A (MDLTX) invests the majority of its assets in equity securities of companies with a wide range of market capitalizations located in Latin America. It may also purchase debt securities issued by governments, related agencies and financial institutions. The fund has a five year annualized return of 22.49%.

The BlackRock fund has an expense ratio of 1.63% compared to a category average of 1.87%.

BlackRock Energy & Resources A ( SSGRX - MF report ) seeks long-term capital appreciation. It invests at least 80% of its assets in energy and natural resources companies worldwide. Up to 20% of its assets may be used to purchase domestic and foreign securities in other sectors. The fund has a ten year annualized return of 22.92%.

As of December 2009, this fund held 144 issues, with 7.50% of its total assets invested in Massey Energy Company.

BlackRock High Income A (MDHIX) invests heavily in fixed income securities. These are generally rated relatively low by at least one recognized rating agency. It may also purchase unrated securities of comparable value. The fund returned 58.06% over the last one year period.

James S. Keenan is the fund manager and he has managed this BlackRock fund since 2007.
