Shopify Stock Jumps on Meta Muse Deal: Time to Buy?
Shopify (SHOP - Free Report) ) shares jumped 7% on Tuesday after announcing a partnership with Meta Platforms (META - Free Report) ) that will bring Shop Pay checkout capabilities to Meta's fast-growing Muse AI agent.
The excitement surrounding Muse has spilled into other AI stocks as well, including Advanced Micro Devices (AMD - Free Report) ), as investors anticipated that broader adoption of AI agents could drive greater demand for CPUs and the computing infrastructure needed to power them.
That said, after Shopify's sharp Muse-fueled rally, investors may want to assess whether the company's growth outlook can support an increasingly premium valuation.
Shopify's Muse Partnership Expands Its AI Commerce Reach
Shopify's integration will allow Muse users to browse products from Shopify merchants and complete purchases directly through Shop Pay. That positions Shopify as an important commerce infrastructure provider for emerging AI agents rather than leaving the company vulnerable to being bypassed by them.
The partnership also extends Shopify's push into "agentic commerce," where AI assistants can discover products and execute purchases on a consumer's behalf.
SHOP's Growth Outlook Remains Strong
Importantly, Shopify's operating momentum was already impressive before the Muse announcement.
Most recently, Q2 revenue climbed 33% year over year to $3.58 billion, while free cash flow increased more than 50% and Shopify posted an 18% free cash flow margin. Management expects Q3 revenue to grow at a low-30% rate, with free cash flow margins in the high-teens to low-20% range.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate calls for fiscal 2026 EPS of $1.89 and annual sales of $15.18 billion, representing more than 61% and 31% growth, respectively. Furthermore, Shopify’s top and bottom lines are projected to increase by over 24% in FY27.

Shopify's Valuation Warrants Some Caution
The biggest argument against chasing SHOP's rally is valuation.
Before the latest surge, SHOP was already trading at over 70X forward earnings and is now at more than 90X compared with its Zacks Internet-Services industry average of 17X.
Strong revenue growth, expanding free cash flow, and Shopify's growing role in AI commerce help justify a premium, but the current multiple leaves less room for disappointment.

Bottom Line
The Meta Muse partnership is a meaningful win for Shopify, and further validates Shop Pay as potential infrastructure for the emerging AI-agent economy.
However, with SHOP surging on the news and already commanding a lofty valuation, investors may not need to chase the spike. Shopify currently lands a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), suggesting it may be prudent to wait for a more attractive entry point despite the company's promising long-term AI commerce opportunity.
