Read MoreHide Full Article

It seems that U.S. national wireless carrier Sprint Corp. (S - Free Report) has already started gifting its customers attractive offerings ahead of Christmas. Recently, the wireless carrier announced that it will provide unlimited high-speed data through its ‘Unlimited Freedom’ and ‘Sprint Open World’ plans. The data speed is said to be the highest offered by a local provider and the offer is valid for a limited span, from Dec 9, 2016 – Mar 31, 2017.

This offering is basically a part of the ‘Sprint Open World Winter Promotion’ and is valid for customers traveling to Mexico and 25 select Caribbean destinations. Customers traveling to these regions can stay connected with their friends and family without worrying about the roaming charges.

The 25 Caribbean vacation spots that come under the purview of this offer include Mexico, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Marie-Galante, Martinique, Montserrat, St Barthelemy, St Martin, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, and Turks & Caicos.

Customers with LTE/GSM capable devices, a targeted Unlimited Freedom plan and Sprint Open World on their account before Dec 9, 2016 are eligible to avail the ‘Sprint Open World Winter Promotion’ plan. The offer is also available with Unlimited Freedom; Unlimited, My Way; Everything Data; Simply Everything/My All-In; $70/$75 UNL/Best Buy One and Employee & SWAC base plans.

Customers traveling to North, Central and South America can enjoy unlimited text, talk and 1GB of high-speed data as part of ‘Sprint Open World’. Customers can avail additional information about ‘Sprint Open World’ by browsing www.sprint.com/openworld, or by visiting a Sprint or RadioShack store.

Price Performance

Shares of Sprint have had a mixed run in the past one year, wherein the company underperformed in the first six months from Jan – Jun 16 but outperformed from Jul16 to date, when compared to Zacks categorized U.S. wireless national industry's growth. Year to date, Sprint has an impressive growth rate of 134.25% compared with the Zacks categorized U.S. wireless national industry's growth of 19.33%.

We believe the upcoming launch of its 5G technology, attractive promotional plans, tilt toward IP-enabled cloud services and sale-leaseback transactions to pay off its debt are likely to increase Sprint’s customer base and lower liquidity pressure. Sprint’s 3-Channel Carrier Aggregation with Nokia Corp. (NOK - Free Report) , Shared Connect Plans and wireless expansion plans also bode well. However, attractive promotional plans and lucrative discounts intended to lure customers from rival carriers such as AT&T Inc. (T - Free Report) and Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ - Free Report) have resulted in high cash burn and heavy losses for Sprint. Further, Sprint’s decision to skip the 600 MHz low-band airwaves auction will save cash for the company but will limit its scope for network upgrades and expansion. These events may have been the reason behind Sprint carrying a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
