Is iShares Core S&P U.S. Value ETF (IUSV) a Strong ETF Right Now?

Read MoreHide Full Article

Launched on 07/24/2000, the iShares Core S&P U.S. Value ETF (IUSV - Free Report) is a smart beta exchange traded fund offering broad exposure to the Style Box - All Cap Value category of the market.

What Are Smart Beta ETFs?

The ETF industry has traditionally been dominated by products based on market capitalization weighted indexes that are designed to represent the market or a particular segment of the market.

A good option for investors who believe in market efficiency, market cap weighted indexes offer a low-cost, convenient, and transparent way of replicating market returns.

However, some investors believe in the possibility of beating the market through exceptional stock selection, and choose a different type of fund that tracks non-cap weighted strategies: smart beta.

By attempting to pick stocks that have a better chance of risk-return performance, non-cap weighted indexes are based on certain fundamental characteristics, or a combination of such.

While this space offers a number of choices to investors, including simplest equal-weighting, fundamental weighting and volatility/momentum based weighting methodologies, not all these strategies have been able to deliver superior results.

Fund Sponsor & Index

Managed by Blackrock, IUSV has amassed assets over $27.13 billion, making it one of the largest ETFs in the Style Box - All Cap Value. IUSV, before fees and expenses, seeks to match the performance of the S&P 900 Value Index.

The S&P 900 Value Index measures the performance of the large and mid-capitalization value sector of the U.S. equity market.

Cost & Other Expenses

When considering an ETF's total return, expense ratios are an important factor. And, cheaper funds can significantly outperform their more expensive cousins in the long term if all other factors remain equal.

Operating expenses on an annual basis are 0.04% for this ETF, which makes it one of the least expensive products in the space.

It has a 12-month trailing dividend yield of 1.66%.

Sector Exposure and Top Holdings

Most ETFs are very transparent products, and disclose their holdings on a daily basis. ETFs also offer diversified exposure, which minimizes single stock risk, though it's still important for investors to research a fund's holdings.

For IUSV, it has heaviest allocation in the Information Technology sector --about 18.9% of the portfolio --while Financials and Healthcare round out the top three.

Taking into account individual holdings, Apple Inc (AAPL) accounts for about 7.31% of the fund's total assets, followed by Amazon.com Inc (AMZN) and Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM).

Its top 10 holdings account for approximately 23.63% of IUSV's total assets under management.

Performance and Risk

So far this year, IUSV has gained about 10.17%, and is up about 17.64% in the last one year (as of 07/27/2026). During this past 52-week period, the fund has traded between $94.17 and $112.66.

The fund has a beta of 0.83 and standard deviation of 12.47% for the trailing three-year period, which makes IUSV a medium risk choice in this particular space. With about 747 holdings, it effectively diversifies company-specific risk .
