AMRX Stock Surges 44.8% in 3 Months: Can the Rally Keep Running Now?

Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Amneal's second-quarter revenue rose 10% and adjusted earnings increased 20%, topping estimates.
  • AMRX raised 2026 revenue, EBITDA and adjusted EPS guidance as earnings estimates also moved higher.
  • Rytary erosion, generic pricing pressure and a valuation near its five-year high could temper upside.

Amneal Pharmaceuticals (AMRX - Free Report) shares have gained 44.8% over the past 12 weeks, putting the durability of the advance in focus. The rally has coincided with better operating results and a higher 2026 outlook.

The next leg will depend on whether earnings growth, new launches and pipeline progress can outweigh execution risks and a valuation that has moved well above AMRX's own historical norm.

AMRX's Earnings Momentum Supports the Rally

Second-quarter 2026 revenues rose 10% year over year to $796 million, topping the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $768 million. Adjusted earnings increased 20% to 30 cents per share and beat the consensus mark of 24 cents.

Amneal also raised 2026 revenue guidance to $3.10-$3.20 billion, adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization guidance to $750-$780 million and adjusted earnings per share guidance to 96 cents to $1.06. The earnings estimate for the current fiscal year has increased 2.2% over the past four weeks.

Amneal's Growth Mix Is Broadening

Affordable Medicines revenues increased 13% in the second quarter to $490 million, helped by complex products, Women's Health products, injectables and higher naloxone sales. Specialty revenues rose 17% to $149 million, driven by Crexont, Unithroid and Brekiya.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries (TEVA - Free Report) is a relevant peer because its portfolio spans generics, biosimilars and innovative medicines. Neurocrine Biosciences (NBIX - Free Report) provides another industry comparison because it is a neuroscience-focused biopharmaceutical company, while Amneal's Specialty segment includes branded neurology therapies.

AMRX Has More Catalysts Ahead

Amneal expects to launch 20-30 Affordable Medicines products annually, including complex products. A biosimilar of Xolair is under review and is expected to launch by the end of 2026 if approved.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has also approved additional iohexol injection strengths and presentations, with launches planned for the third quarter of 2026. Separately, the agency accepted two abbreviated new drug applications for generic tirzepatide autoinjectors referencing Mounjaro and Zepbound.

Amneal's Risks Could Temper More Upside

Rytary's loss of exclusivity remains the clearest near-term pressure point for Specialty. An authorized generic has already launched and Amneal expects additional generic entrants, limiting segment growth in 2026.

Pricing pressure across U.S. generics is another constraint. Approval delays, complete response letters or slower-than-expected adoption of complex injectables, biosimilars and specialty products could also disrupt the growth path.

AMRX's Valuation Raises the Bar

AMRX trades at 1.8X trailing 12-month sales, below the Zacks sub-industry's 2.5X multiple. That relative discount remains a positive valuation point.

The comparison with AMRX's own history is more demanding. Its current multiple sits well above the five-year median of 0.6X and near the five-year high of 2.0X, making execution increasingly important after the recent advance.

AMRX's Strong Signal Meets Mixed Style Scores

Bottom line, Amneal's higher outlook and product pipeline support continued operating momentum, but Rytary erosion, generics pricing pressure and the elevated multiple relative to AMRX's history remain meaningful offsets.

AMRX currently carries a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), a favorable short-term signal tied to earnings estimate revisions. Its Value Score of B is favorable, but the Growth Score of F, Momentum Score of D and VGM Score of D are weaker. The Style Scores complement the Zacks Rank, so investors should distinguish the positive near-term rank signal from the stock's mixed factor profile.
