Boston Scientific's ICVT Business Gains Momentum: Can Growth Continue?

Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Boston Scientific's ICVT sales rose 15%, led by double-digit growth in coronary therapies.
  • BSX plans to launch its SEISMIQ 4CE catheter in the first half of 2027 after positive trial results.
  • BSX's MiRus investment and pending Penumbra deal could expand its long-term growth opportunities.

Boston Scientific (BSX - Free Report) saw continued strength in its Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Therapies (“ICVT”) business in the second quarter of 2026, with sales up 15% year over year. Interventional Cardiology led the performance, benefiting from double-digit growth in coronary therapies, with continued strength in Drug-Coated Balloon, imaging and complex Percutaneous Coronary Intervention. Management expects ICVT to be Boston Scientific’s strongest growth drivers in the coming years.

In May, the company presented data from the FRACTURE trial, studying its SEISMIQ 4CE Coronary Intravascular Lithotripsy Catheter, in a late-breaking trial session at the EuroPCR 2026 congress. The trial met all endpoints, demonstrating high rates of freedom from major adverse cardiac events at 30 days and procedural success in patients with severely calcified coronary artery disease. Boston Scientific expects to launch the device in the first half of 2027.

The company also invested nearly $1.5 billion for an approximately 34% equity stake in MiRus LLC, developer of the SIEGEL Balloon Expandable Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (“TAVR”) system. This agreement includes an exclusive option to acquire the MiRus TAVR system, subject to additional payments and certain milestones. Backed by years of research and proprietary technology, the SIEGEL valve’s unique design and impressive early clinical results may set it apart from currently available technologies.

In addition, enrollment is advancing in the THRIVE trial, which is evaluating the TIVUS Ultrasound System for renal denervation in the treatment of hypertension. The technology is expected to reach the market in 2028. Meanwhile, Vascular Therapies sales were led by broader adoption of Varithena and the drug-eluting portfolio. The SEISMIQ peripheral IVL launch is gaining a strong reception for its clinical differentiation as supply continues to ramp up.

The pending Penumbra acquisition could further expand BSX’s opportunities. The deal is nearing completion, subject to remaining regulatory clearances, and is expected to bolster the company’s long-term growth profile.
