Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Regency and EVgo plan to add more than 400 charging stalls across U.S. retail centers.
  • EVgo operates 150 stalls at Regency locations, with new sites targeting high-density markets.
  • New sites may offer up to 24 high-power chargers, with charging times as short as 15 minutes.

Regency Centers Corporation (REG - Free Report) and EVgo Inc. (EVGO - Free Report) are expanding their partnership to bring fast-charging infrastructure to shopping centers. The companies plan to add more than 400 EVgo charging stalls at Regency locations across the United States. Once completed, these new stalls are expected to expand Regency’s EV charging infrastructure footprint by more than 20%.

The relationship dates back to 2020, when EVgo installed its first charger at a Regency center. EVgo now operates more than 150 stalls across Regency locations. The partnership is well suited to Regency’s grocery-anchored centers in high-density markets, as supermarkets and shopping centers are preferred charging destinations. Roughly half of drivers who stop to charge also enter nearby retail or food space, supporting additional customer traffic.

The new charging stalls are expected to be located at metropolitan-area retail centers in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and other states. Each new EVgo site may feature up to 24 high-power EVgo chargers capable of delivering a full charge within 15 minutes, depending on the vehicle.

The charging format also fits the shopping patterns around grocery-anchored centers. The news release notes that the average American household visits grocery stores two to three times per week, with an average dwell time of 23 minutes. The overlap between charging time and shopping time could make Regency’s centers convenient locations for EV drivers while increasing the utility of its properties.

Conclusion

The expansion complements Regency’s broader environmental and operating strategy. Its 2025 corporate-responsibility highlights show EV charging stations already installed at 33% of properties. Meanwhile, second-quarter 2026 Same Property net operating income (NOI) rose 3.8%, leased occupancy reached 96.9% and Regency maintained about $1.5 billion of revolver capacity. Together, these strong property fundamentals and expanded EV infrastructure could reinforce the appeal of its grocery-anchored portfolio, deepen customer engagement and support long-term value creation.
