Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Constellation Energy signed a 20-year Google PPA to add 890 MW of new nuclear capacity to the PJM grid.
  • Google's deal supports over $4.3 billion in upgrades to 11 CEG nuclear units, starting in 2028.
  • CEG also secured a 15-year supply deal for 2,700 MW of existing PJM generation, boosting revenue certainty.

Constellation Energy Corporation (CEG - Free Report) is strengthening its long-term prospects by securing power agreements with large customers seeking reliable, emissions-free electricity. These contracts can provide revenue visibility while supporting investments in the company’s nuclear fleet.

On Oct. 6, 2026, CEG announced a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to add 890 megawatts (MW) of new nuclear capacity to the PJM grid. The agreement will support more than $4.3 billion of investment in upgrades to 11 CEG-owned nuclear units,  with the first uprate expected in 2028.

The deal also includes a 15-year energy supply agreement covering 2,700 MW of existing PJM generation, providing greater revenue certainty and supporting the continued operation of Constellation Energy’s generating assets. CEG will use Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise to enhance asset performance, optimize power dispatch and improve energy operations.

In the second quarter of 2026, CEG signed 920 MW of long-term PPAs with investment-grade customers. The contracts had an average duration of 18.5 years and are expected to be fully ramped by 2032. Recently, CEG also signed a 20-year PPA with Amazon covering 690 MW, including 190 MW of new nuclear capacity. The agreement supports more than $3 billion in Maryland infrastructure investments through 2032.

CEG expects nearly $5.7 billion in capital expenditures in 2026 and $4.7 billion in 2027, supporting investments in growth opportunities. Thus, Google’s agreement supports CEG’s growth through new nuclear capacity, contracted revenues, asset investments and rising AI-driven electricity demand.

Long-Term PPAs Strengthen Utility Growth Prospects

Long-term PPAs provide utilities with predictable revenues, improving cash-flow visibility and supporting investment in generation assets. Such agreements also help fund capacity expansions while meeting rising electricity demand.

Vistra Corp. (VST - Free Report) benefits from long-term nuclear PPAs with Meta and AWS, strengthening contracted revenue visibility. In second-quarter 2026, Vistra indicated that these agreements could lift Retail and contracted revenue sources to nearly 50% of EBITDA.

NextEra Energy (NEE - Free Report) benefits from a large contracted development pipeline that supports future growth visibility. Energy Resources added 3.6 GW of generation and storage to its backlog during second-quarter 2026, lifting the total backlog to approximately 35.1 GW.
