Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM - Free Report) or TSMC is scheduled to report its third-quarter 2026 results tomorrow, before market open. The results are expected to reflect continued strength in its High-Performance Computing (HPC) platform, driven by robust AI chip demand from hyperscalers and leading semiconductor customers.

The company's advanced process technologies, particularly the 3nm family and growing demand for advanced packaging solutions, are also expected to support another quarter of solid growth. Meanwhile, the smartphone business is likely to remain healthy on seasonal demand, though AI-related HPC is expected to remain the primary growth engine.

TSM stock gained a mere 2.7% during the July-September quarter of 2026, compared with the broader Computer and Technology sector's 4.3% growth. Despite continued execution across key strategic initiatives, including the ramp-up of advanced process technologies and expansion of advanced packaging capabilities, market sentiment remained sensitive to elevated growth expectations, substantial capital expenditure requirements and broader volatility in semiconductor stocks amid geopolitical uncertainty and rising Treasury yields.

TSMC's earnings beat estimates in each of the trailing four quarters, with the average positive surprise being 10.13%.

How Are Estimates Poised for TSM?

What to Expect From TSM's Q3 Results

Taiwan Semiconductor's third-quarter 2026 results are expected to reflect another quarter of strong AI-led execution. During the second-quarter announcement, management guided third-quarter revenues of $44.6-$45.8 billion, representing approximately 12% sequential growth at the midpoint, supported by continued strong demand for leading-edge process technologies.

TSMC's monthly revenue reports have since shown that sales increased 44.7%, 53.3% and 54.6% year over year in July, August and September, respectively, with third-quarter revenues totaling approximately NT$1.49 trillion. However, gross margin is projected at 65%-67%, reflecting the expected dilution from the ramp-up of 2nm technology and overseas manufacturing facilities.

The company emphasized that AI-related demand continues to be extremely robust, driven by growing computing requirements across AI data centers and the emergence of agentic AI. TSMC also raised its 2026 capital expenditure outlook to $60-$64 billion and projected full-year revenue growth of slightly more than 40% in U.S. dollar terms. Management noted strong demand for leading-edge technologies, including 2nm, but said rising component prices and macroeconomic uncertainty could challenge consumer and price-sensitive end markets.

Our Take

TSMC appears well positioned ahead of its third-quarter earnings announcement, supported by robust AI-driven demand, industry-leading process technologies and continued expansion of advanced packaging capabilities. Strong year-over-year revenue growth in July, August and September indicates sustained business momentum. Rising demand for leading-edge chips and AI infrastructure is expected to support another quarter of solid growth.

With a Zacks Rank #1 and upward earnings estimate revisions, TSMC remains an attractive investment opportunity for investors seeking exposure to the AI semiconductor value chain. However, its negative Earnings ESP warrants some caution ahead of the results.
