  • ON's planned $600M Ferric acquisition lifts its 2030 AI data center revenue target to more than $3 billion.
  • ON's gross margin rose 190 basis points to 41.2%, driven by better manufacturing utilization and product mix.

ON Semiconductor Corporation (ON - Free Report) emphasized accelerating AI data center demand, improving industrial conditions and expanding profitability during its third-quarter 2026 earnings call. Management highlighted rising power requirements and new product ramps as key growth drivers.

Executives also addressed temporary automotive supply constraints, acquisition plans and manufacturing efficiencies, while outlining expectations for continued growth in 2027.

ON Sees AI Data Center Revenue Doubling in 2027

President and CEO Hassane El-Khoury highlighted AI data centers as onsemi’s fastest-growing market. Revenue reached $180 million, increasing 39% sequentially and 175% year over year.

Management raised its 2026 AI data center revenue expectation to approximately $620 million, representing 140% annual growth. The company expects revenues from this market to double in 2027.

El-Khoury attributed the momentum to new product ramps and expanding customer engagements. Volume shipments began across multiple platforms, including Google, while emerging 800-volt architectures present additional opportunities.

onsemi Expands AI Ambitions Through Ferric Acquisition

ON announced its planned acquisition of Ferric for $600 million, plus potential milestone-based payments of up to $175 million. The transaction expands its capabilities in integrated voltage regulators for AI processors.

El-Khoury emphasized Ferric's power density, efficiency and transient response capabilities. Management raised its 2030 AI data-center revenues target by $500 million to more than $3 billion.

Executive vice president and CFO Thad Trent expects the transaction to close in the fourth quarter. He anticipates limited near-term financial impact, with earnings accretion as the business scales.

ON Balances Automotive Supply Against Stronger Demand

Automotive revenues declined 1% sequentially to $777 million as ON redirected constrained supply toward AI data centers and industrial applications.

During the Q&A session, a BofA Securities analyst questioned whether this reallocation could affect automotive market share. El-Khoury clarified that the decision was temporary and did not represent a strategic retreat.

Management maintained that existing automotive end demand remained supported, while inventory replenishment was deferred. Supply availability should normalize in early 2027, allowing automotive growth to resume in line with long-term targets.

onsemi Benefits From Industrial Infrastructure Demand

Industrial revenue increased 10% sequentially to $467 million, supported by energy infrastructure, factory automation and broader industrial improvements.

El-Khoury emphasized demand extending beyond data centers into electrical infrastructure and energy applications. During questioning from Barclays, he identified AI-related infrastructure spending as the primary contributor to industrial strength.

Management expects industrial revenues to rise by a low-double-digit percentage in the fourth quarter. El-Khoury also clarified during the Q&A session that industrial strength reflected actual end demand rather than inventory replenishment.

ON Targets Further Margin Expansion Through Utilization

Non-GAAP gross margin reached 41.2%, expanding 190 basis points sequentially. Trent attributed the improvement to manufacturing utilization benefits and favorable product mix.

During questioning from StoneX, Trent detailed the company's path toward its 53% long-term gross margin target. He identified approximately 450 basis points from utilization improvements, 225 basis points from manufacturing restructuring and 400 basis points from product mix.

Trent also expects pricing benefits and additional efficiencies from the Fab Right program. Management anticipates capital expenditures of approximately 5% of revenues in 2027, compared with approximately 2% in 2026.

onsemi Expects Continued Growth Into 2027

Management guided fourth-quarter revenues to $1.715-$1.815 billion, with non-GAAP gross margin of 41.5-43.5% and adjusted earnings of $0.95-$1.07 per share.

The outlook follows third-quarter adjusted earnings of $0.90 per share, exceeding the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.88. Revenues of approximately $1.72 billion surpassed the $1.7 billion consensus.

Trent expects continued revenue growth and margin expansion into 2027, supported by differentiated products and manufacturing efficiencies.

ON Maintains Focus on Profitable Growth

Management's broader message centered on translating stronger demand into earnings and free cash flow growth while maintaining capital discipline.

El-Khoury emphasized power technology differentiation, while Trent highlighted operating leverage and a more efficient manufacturing footprint as priorities.
