Shares of Hamilton Beach Brands Holding Company (HBB - Free Report) have lost 0.7% since reporting results for the third quarter of 2026. This compares with the S&P 500 index’s 1.6% return over the same time frame. Over the past month, the stock has fallen 6.4% compared with the S&P 500’s 1.9% decline.

Earnings & Revenue Performance

Hamilton Beach Brands reported third-quarter 2026 revenues of $140.3 million, increasing 5.6% from $132.8 million in the year-ago quarter. The improvement primarily reflected a recovery in its U.S. consumer business and strong growth in healthcare operations. Net income increased to $3.5 million from $1.7 million a year earlier. Earnings per share rose to 26 cents from 12 cents in the prior-year quarter, supported by higher sales and an improved gross margin despite increased operating expenses.

HBB's Profitability & Financial Position Improve

Gross profit increased to $38.5 million from $28 million in the prior-year quarter. The gross margin expanded 640 basis points to 27.5% from 21.1%, reflecting favorable tariff-related developments.

Operating profit climbed 52.6% to $4.4 million from $2.9 million in the prior-year quarter. However, selling, general and administrative expenses increased to $34.2 million from $25.2 million in the prior-year quarter, partially offsetting profitability improvements.

For the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2026, the operating cash inflow totaled $80.5 million compared with a cash outflow of $14.6 million in the prior-year period.

Inventory declined 20.6% year over year to $138.7 million in the third quarter. During the quarter, the company repaid $25 million in debt, repurchased approximately 25,000 shares for $0.6 million and distributed $1.7 million in dividends.

Its net cash position reached $67.5 million against net debt of $32.8 million a year earlier.

Management Highlights Growth Across Strategic Businesses

CEO Scott Tidey emphasized the recovery in consumer demand and continued expansion of higher-margin commercial and healthcare operations.

Hamilton Beach introduced single-serve coffee platforms, irons, air fryers and multi-cookers. Its premium Lotus brand expanded online distribution, while the company prepared additional product launches.

Commercial operations benefited from the initial deployment of its Eclipse Blender at a national coffee chain and continued momentum in Sunkist commercial equipment.

Management also highlighted opportunities to expand product distribution across additional hotel chains.

Hamilton Beach Health recorded its fifth consecutive quarter of profitable growth. The business surpassed 1.25 million tracked injections and 70,000 patients managed globally.

Management expects healthcare revenues to increase 50% year over year in 2026, supported by specialty pharmacy partnerships and expanding connected medical device applications.

Tariff Benefits Support HBB's Earnings Growth

The improved tariff environment contributed significantly to profitability.

During the year-ago quarter, Hamilton Beach incurred approximately $5 million in additional costs associated with inventory imported under temporarily elevated Chinese tariffs.

The latest quarter benefited from inventory no longer subject to those tariffs, supporting margin expansion.

However, operating expenses increased due to $4 million in higher incentive-related personnel costs, $1.6 million in additional advertising expenditure and $1.3 million in accelerated depreciation associated with its legacy enterprise resource planning system.

The effective tax rate increased to 31.6% from 18.4%, reflecting the absence of a favorable tax benefit recorded in the prior-year quarter.

HBB Reduces Revenue & Operating Profit Outlook

Management lowered its 2026 revenue outlook amid weaker consumer sentiment and increasingly cautious retailer inventory commitments.

Full-year revenues are expected to be flat year over year compared with previous expectations of mid-single-digit growth.

Excluding the discontinued Bartesian licensing contribution, management projects revenue growth of 3.4% for 2026 and 1.3% for the fourth quarter.

The gross margin, excluding tariff refund benefits, is expected to improve modestly from the 2025 level of 25.7%.

Operating profit is projected to decline in the high-teens percentage compared with the earlier expectation of a high-single-digit decline.

Conversely, management raised its forecast for operating cash flow less investing cash outflows to $40-$50 million from $35-$45 million, supported by working capital normalization.

The revised outlook underscores the contrast between improving financial flexibility and persistent consumer demand uncertainties.
